Canada can put together B teams that are better than most other countries A teams.

Yes but every player drafted around Yak who Staois said isn’t there is there at WJC camo now except for Yak - so just for your prospect play nice with HC so if there’s a decision to be made on injury call up maybe your GM doesn’t give a reason for Team Canada to think twice about who it’ll be.

Don't think it had much to do with Staios comments, Hockey Canada just has never been very high on Yakemchuk, Parekh's head coach is on the staff, and Parekh is already located in Ontario's region

Time and relation with the program always plays a part in hockey canada decisions.

He has never been a guy they've liked from his age group, especially compared to how he's viewed elsewhere, and his time with the program hasn't been very beneficial towards improving that

- He wasn't invited to the Hlinka summer camp roster with 14 other 05's invited
- He had a poor U18's nine months later
- He had a poor summer camp in August

He just seems to be on the outside looking in from his age group with respect to how he's viewed by Hockey Canada.

Seems like Akey was one of the guys consisdered close to a lock for that Right side, goes to show that we don't always have the best idea of what Hockey Canada may be thinking

Dickinson may not even make it, and may be in line for the 7th spot if he does. Schaefer is possibly their top D already

Wait, what... Dickenson might not make it? How does that make any sense?

Well, they have sat a total of 6 D between the 2 games. Molendyk, Myino and Schaefer all being lefties. Bonk, Gibson and Akey being the right side guys.

Can pretty safely assume they are considered the locks, at the bare minimu 5/6. That's generally how things go at the camp.

Looks like there are 4 guys competing for the last spot. Parekh, Dickinson, Allen and Price, they're the only guys to dress in both games. I'd think/hope Dickinson is the automatic there, but who knows. Hockey Canada have their process, and many times it's not popular among fans

I'll be surprised if Dickinson is cut. Parekh is probably getting cut I am guessing.
Molendyk and Mynio are in.. again guessing by them sitting today but they have seen a fair bit of them
I think they will take Shaefer who played today and sat yesterday. I don't know if we'll know who is 7th right away

Who cares if they didn't select Yakemchuk, it doesn't matter, he is the player the Sens needed & drafted & he was great during the preseason. I expect he could be in Ott as soon as next yr, but if he spends a little time in Belleville that never hurts any prospect. He is going to be a very good defenceman for this team, that's all that matters, a lot of good players have not played on Team Canada & turned into great NHL players.

I am disappointed that Yak was not selected. I don't like what this potentially means. However, I am hoping that Yak develops into a very good two-way defenceman for us.

My only cope is that they didn't select Parekh either, which makes me think either they don't know what they're doing, or their D depth is so good it doesn't say much about Yak's capabilities.

Can we now agree that the Calgary Hitmen are a legitimate contender in the WHL.

They have the best winning percentage in the Eastern Conference and sit one point out of first place with 4 games in hand on Medicine Hat.

It doesn't mean anything, my own guess is that Yak plays a rough style of hockey & because of that he gets a lot of penalties & penalties can hurt you in a tournament like this. We saw where he was ranked in the draft & I guess that perception still lingers. However, saying all that Ott got exactly the kind of player they need & will brings some much needed size & muscle to the defence that is pretty soft right now. He looked great in pre-season on our blueline.

People need to separate their NHL team from the world jrs. It is some of the best hockey out there and is in a class of it's own compared to just about every other yearly tournament in any sport.

Having your own prospects in it is a major bonus but as a hockey fan I don't know how you can't be excited no matter what.

One of my best live wjhc experiences was watching Finland absolutely shell Kazakhstan in 2019 to the tune of 75+ shots while the Kazakh goalie kept it close and was near collapse between whistles. The local crowd was losing their mind as the game went on and he got a standing ovation at the end which he skated back onto the ice for from the locker room. For the rest of the week all the Kazakh gear sold out and there was as much powder blue in the crowd as any other team not named Canada.

It's stuff like that that makes the wjhc unique and if you take the time to binge it you get rewarded.

Hopefully Nikitin creates a storyline this year in Ottawa. He has a huge opportunity to win over the hearts of the whole city.

I love the WJC .. The players are picked by the people that know what they want for their own reasons. Every year because of the talent pool available there will be players not selected that people want to be there for a variety of reasons. I love the international competition of these best on best tournaments. Its too bad Russia can't participate but I can understand the politics. I would really like to see Bedard, Celebrini and Benson on team Canada

There is a lot of politics in WJC. Seeing as the Sens likely provided a lot of support for this WJC the least they could have done is scratched their backs a little bit by selecting a more than capable player in Yak as their 7th D.

f*** dem kids i hope Canada loses.
