I think you are in for a surprise then.

I’ll happily bet 1,000,000 imaginary dollars that no combination of Yakemchuk, JBD or Hamonic will play on their off side this year.

We tried it with Chychryn. No good.

Staios in an interview recently said that some guys can do it, but most can’t. And he played 1000 games at the position.

When this kid fills out, watch out. Has proved that his ceiling is even higher than previously thought, and he is much closer to reaching it than expected.
He already looks huge compared to other NHLers but obviously doesn't quite have his man strength yet.

Despite picking up 2 pts I thought he could have looked better at times. He's very efficient in his movements but I continue to think he really has to work on his skating if he wants to be a superstar in this league.

9 games has to be a foregone conclusion at this point.

he has flat out been the best player in the pre season.
This is the craziest part!

Of course other vets may go through the motions, and of course he isn't actually the best player on the team, but what more could he do to earn a roster spot?

He competes.
He doesn't make many glaring mistakes
He makes offensive plays on the backend we haven't seen since EK.
He is very obviously noticeable in a positive way every game.
His positive plays lead to goals and to W's.

My mind is so torn right now. I can't rationalize keeping him for the year, but I can't imagine sending him down.

If he maintains this level of play into the regular season HTF does he not get regular minutes? I really hope they have him in the lineup tomorrow.

Mind blown. I admit this year I was lax on my prospects, but reading the board you would think he could barely skate and had no IQ.

He is going to be an above average D in the NHL, at minimum. A+ for snagging this guy.

Did he get the most minutes tonight?

I wouldn't even be mad if we keep Yak up with the Sens for the entire season and if he needs more maturing, send him down to the AHL next season like CHI has done with Korchinski.

The two players that have stood out the most the pre-season are Yakemchuk and Gaudette.

I'll say he's ready now. Many others will say no. Man's just continue racking up points. Nobody is rushing him. If he is NHL ready now, let him play. Sad to say but someone else's job is at stake on the right side. Maybe he returns to junior after all. But he's garnered his 9 games without burning a year in his contract.

I get ya, Yakumchuk has a knack for ending games with a W, but I’d say Ullmark has been our best player. We get outplayed pretty badly and still win, my type of goalie

That's why one should not base their opinions on a group of regular guys on a message board who think they know more than the actual scouts.

I think Yak deserve to play the 9 games and then you make a decision base on his play in those 9 games. If he's good enough to stick and play in a regular basis why not. But he needs to be part of our top 6 otherwise send him back to Calgary.

He could play in the NHL, but my gut says send him to get more playing time and making baby steps is not a bad thing.....send him to Tony Greco and get his strength and size increased!

Thought that was yakemchuks shakiest game defensively. Caught reaching a lot. But. 2 points and a W
Did you see who the other 5 d were?

Crazy when you think that in a couple of games he is the difference maker. And of all training camps, I have never seen our vets play so casual, so I think it is very hard to gauge right now how good he really is. A lot of NHLers seem to be sleepwalking this year, especially after Laine’s injury. And Doughty.

Ottawa had no business winning last night, but don’t tell that to Yak!

defense still needs work his offense is realllyy good

keep him around for a few games and see what happens

If Kleven was a more vet defensemen I get this would be an easier decision. Might be tough to play him and Kleven together.

His reach is an asset but he does rely on it too much. He’s has to keep his feet moving at the NHL level. You see it when he pivots or turns on a play too, he loses a lot of speed. He’s an otherwise good skater, but at the NHL level he will be a bit of a liability because of it. It’s something that can be improved and I wonder if it’s partly a conditioning issue.

He doesn’t play with 5 other d. He’s 50% of one pairing. He was shaky. Which is totally fine

Without a doubt. Luckily, Kleven/JBD/Hamonic have also all looked good. Therefore we wont need to rush Yak past the 9 game mark.

I think he will create a debate on here if we should keep him past the 9 games or not.
After watching Kleven in Senator games late last season, I expected him to take another step which I haven’t seen. JBD is JBD and he doesn’t really stand out in any big way, so I would struggle to use the word good when it comes to describing him. JBD was more physical and played with more an edge in his last game, so maybe that’s where the “good” evaluation is coming from.

Yak and Sanderson have been the 2 defenders that have looked good, and Hamonic looks healthy again which is encouraging & refreshing.
