It's okOh sorry. You are totally right!
For some reason I thought he played centre.
Duh!

I think we all would love Byram, and agreed he and JoMo could do some damage, would also allow us to move down Demelo to stablise the bottom pairing.I think Byram would be the guy. Having a skater who can move around the lineup. I'd be really interested to see what Morrissey and Byram together could do offensively.
Almost every other player who got out of Buffalo did well but yeah it's a risk for sure, still there are no other possible 2C's out there with term, especially one who is young and has a 30 goal season under his belt, I think the risk is worth it.It just seems too high risk to bank on that guy for a team that is well tuned like the Jets. But there's some people who think he will break out the moment he gets out of Buffalo, so you never know.
I was browsing through The Athletic player cards. As a 30 year old upcoming UFA the price for. A guy with at minimum a year of term left is obviously going to be higher.
I don't really see it either but the fancy stats would tell you that he's the Jets 3rd best defenseman I think?
I still think everyone is way overestimating how quickly Salomonsson is going to be NHL ready. With Samberg he played 3 years in college then a COVID shortened AHL year another AHL year with some injury call up time in the NHL. Obviously all prospects don't develop at the same pace but after the injury this year I would be shocked if he is anything more than a injury call up next year. 26/27 I think is a much more realistic.
I think a deal for Cozens is perfetti +Power at 8.35m for the next 6 1/2 seasons? Nah...
Cozens is signed for 5 more years and I think he is just what the team needs. A big, fast skating center that isn't afraid to drop the gloves and has the ability to put up points. Also, he was born in Whitehorse so he shouldn't have a problem with the winters here.
Ehlers Cozens Lambert
Speed to burn, playmakers and goal scorers.
Make it happen Chevy!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know if trading Perfetti automatically means having to re-sign Ehlers. Basically Cozens would replace Perfetti in the top 6, or currently add to the top 6 without subtracting. Also our pipeline leans towards wingers. And what do you get back in an Ehlers trade?I think a deal for Cozens is perfetti +
If you do that, you better know that Ehlers is re-signing or else the top 6 is getting pretty thin
From there... let's say Ehlers is 8M... add Cozens at 7.1M... and then factor in raises to Vilardi, Connor, Samberg...
I haven't run the numbers, but would the cap even work?
Cozens wpuld match speed with ehlers and be the shooter perfetti needs...Jets are being linked to Buffalo. Wouldn't shock me to see the Jets putting in a call to see about Power or Byram
I don't see Chevy moving Ehlers to be honest. I realize he's never gone the "own rental" path in the past... but he's said repeatedly that he's committed to winning. The only way I could see Ehlers being dealt is in a hockey trade with an extension in place, or a deal for futures that involves some kind of similar pending UFA that could replace him in the top 6 this seasonI don't know if trading Perfetti automatically means having to re-sign Ehlers. Yeah the cap works with the expected increases, we have plenty and probably even some to spare. From there... let's say Ehlers is 8M... add Cozens at 7.1M... and then factor in raises to Vilardi, Connor, Samberg...

Just because you are mired in shit in Buffalo doesn't mean you don't hold onto the same skill set and could really breakout big time in a better environment. Cuzons is a big fast center with a ton of puck skills. Being signed long term without trade protection is a plus for us.I dont think theres really anything on the Sabres that makes sense for the Jets. I mean Cozens i guess but he's signed for eternity at 7 mil+ per and has been pretty meh this season. Team worst -18 to boot.
You have lots of time to try to back fill. IMO, Cozens represents what we have been searching for over the last decade, a young top 6 center. Chevy is pretty cagy and I see him making something unexpected happen. I'm the opposite as I see an own rental with Ehlers as the least likely outcome with him.I don't see Chevy moving Ehlers to be honest. If you do trade Perfetti and Ehlers walks, you could for sure run a line of
Lambert - Cozens - X
(I don't think they run two rookies on that line)
If the Cap does not go up Jets have around $35 M to play with Connor and Lowry needing to sign the following year.I think a deal for Cozens is perfetti +

RFA to sign ... numbers (millions) are just imo.
Vilardi ... $7
Samberg ... $6
Barron ... $2
Kupari ... $2
FA
Ehlers $8
Pionk ... $6.5
Iaffallo ... Gone
Namestnikov ... Gone
Appleton ... Gone
Fleury $1.5
Total $33 so $2 million to play with plus the SC hike.
I’m trying to remember the last time jets traded that many players in a single tradeAny chance this would work?
To Buffalo - Perfetti, Pionk, Stanley, 3rd
To Wpg - Cozens, Byram, 2nd
We get 2 guys who instantly get into the lineup, while Perfetti would be able to play 2nd line minutes and as a Center. Pionk can finish out the year and then try to get the most amount in the offseason, and Stanley the big, tall guy back on D.
We would only take on an additional $600,000 for the remaining of the year.
Already robbed the bank from them once, maybe we can do it again.
That would be quite the fleece if Chevy could pull that deal off, I think we still need to add in order to get that done as Stan is worth nothing so essentially it's Fetts, Pionk and 2nd for Cozens and Byram LOL.Any chance this would work?

No I don't think it works, as the only thing Buffalo would want is Perfetti. They are deep at LHD so Stanley holds no value. Pionk only has value if they intend to flip him at the TDL. Pionk probably gets them a late 1st at the TDL so that actually adds value.Any chance this would work?

Yup ... Byram and Crozens for EP40 is what I heard. What about Pefetti for Jiri Kulich? (additions as required)
Ehlers Lowry Kulich this year and
Ehlers Kulich Lambert next year.
Sounds like Buffalo is in on EP40. (NHL Radio).
The cap does start to get tight once you round out the lineup. The Jets are likely to hold onto some of the vets you have gone.If the Cap does not go up Jets have around $35 M to play with Connor and Lowry needing to sign the following year.

If it’s cozens and byram for petterson vs for who may be on table for Jets, who would you rather trade for if you’re the sabres?Yeah I just really want Cozens, as down the middle for awhile would be Scheif/Cozens/Lowry would be amazing. Least we don't have to worry about that and can focus on any RFA's and UFA's after.
When I look around, Cozens does seem to be the best target for Chevy to pursue. It is a matter of what would interest Buffalo enough. I think you have to start with Perfetti. Salo would move the needle, but I don't know if Chevy takes that leap. Maybe Perfetti and Lambert?Yeah I just really want Cozens, as down the middle for awhile would be Scheif/Cozens/Lowry would be amazing. I don't think Vancouver moves EP40 for Cozens and Byram. Maybe Cozens and Powers. If it’s cozens and byram for petterson vs for who may be on table for Jets, who would you rather trade for if you’re the sabres?
Probably pettersson all day every day in that scenario
