Prospect Info: Ivan Demidov (2024 5th OA): SKA St. Petersburg (KHL)

I'm soo happy with the season of Demidov in KHL.

I wanted to see 30-35 pts in 40-45 games, now he have 40 pts in 48 games. That's sooo good!!

I knew that he was always a great stick handler, hard worker and playmaker, but 2 things impressive me more from him, his shot and his all around game.

I see him score like Kaprizov, 35-45 goals per season. With a ton of assists who will reach 100-120 pts per year. Yess, I have no doubt that he can reach multiples season of 110-120 pts, he is that good!!

I don't think you're giving him enough respect. He deserves more respect than that.

I know you joking, but I agree with you. Demidov deserve all respect in the world.

World class talent, world class work ethic and world class beauty.

This guy is the best thing I see in my entire life with Habs since Lane Hutson!!

I can't wait next year man!!

We are sooo lucky to have picked that beast at only 5. Wow!!

Demidov has all the assets in the world:

Hands
Iq
Vision
Shot
200 foot player
Charisma

Etc..

But maybe his most important one is:

His will to improve.

All we hear is that he is a gym rat.

His will to improve all the details of his game on or off the ice is off chart

Crosby and McDavid comes to mind in that sens.

Always hard to figure out how a 18 years old player will be at 23...but when you have this important quality...your chances are quite high that you will be a lot better.

To be fair to Kev, while he’s far more optimistic than most of us - he’s never been annoyingly optimistic. I always enjoy reading his stuff and generally, he helps me feel good.

There’s been a handful of people over the years that just could not say a single bad thing and would go to great lengths to defend people that didn’t deserve defending and that was just sickening. To the point you had to wonder if the account actually was a Bergevin or Therrien burner.

I agree with your wingers, but I'd switch Cs:

Demidov - Suzuki - Laine
Caufield - Dach - Slafkovsky

Demidov will give Laine tons of room to lose himself and be set up for one-timers. Having three shot options in Demidov, Suzuki and Laine helps both Demidov and Suzuki who will each have two pass options.

This is what I want to see, too. This only works if Laine remembers how to play 5 on 5 though. If he does, and that "second" line gels like I think they will, Look out. That's a cup-winning top 6 if everyone hits their potential.
 
Tbh, I am hoping Demidov pushes Laine out and we are able to trade him. I really hate Laine's game as he is lazy and horrendous defensively. He has always been a 5 vs 5 liability and even though he is a great PP piece, we will have more than enough if Demidov is as good as I believe he his. Laine was a nice add to boost the pp and provide evidence to the core that management believes in them but imo he is just a transitional piece until he shows that he buys in to the system for an entire game. Much like Kovalev, he disappears and floats fro periods of time in every game. Unfortunately he is very reliant on others to create his chances whereas Kovalev would turn the game on it's head and create his own magic.

I want Demidov in the top six on the left wing and that creates a real problem as Laine is there and even when you put him on the right side he will migrate to the left.

Don't get me wrong, I am not going to throw a fit if they don't move Laine as he does obviously have a rare talent for shooting the puck. I just don't see where he fits with this team next season if it is fully healthy.

What I do believe I know is that Caufield is already a much better left winger than Laine and Demidov should quickly surpass him as well. There is a lot of time between now and then and Laine is still young enough to change his stripes to some degree so I will not say that it would be a mistake to keep him when Demidov comes over. I just have a sense of trepidation about how it will ultimately play out. Hopefully I am wrong as I often am.

Laine is probably playing on one leg to save his career. I think it's too soon to make a full evaluation of what he can bring, he's definitely got more to give at 5 on 5, but we wont probably be seeing the full scope of his impact until next season, if he remains healthy.

Very good point albeit he has been a lazy defender and a floater for most of his career but he is young and seems to at least have a little better outlook on life. I was not considering the injury so I will cut him some extra slack for this season.
