I think Byram would be the guy. Having a skater who can move around the lineup. I'd be really interested to see what Morrissey and Byram together could do offensively.

I think we all would love Byram, and agreed he and JoMo could do some damage, would also allow us to move down Demelo to stablise the bottom pairing.

It just seems too high risk to bank on that guy for a team that is well tuned like the Jets. But there's some people who think he will break out the moment he gets out of Buffalo, so you never know.

Almost every other player who got out of Buffalo did well but yeah it's a risk for sure, still there are no other possible 2C's out there with term, especially one who is young and has a 30 goal season under his belt, I think the risk is worth it.

As a 30 year old upcoming UFA the price for. A guy with at minimum a year of term left is obviously going to be higher.

I still think everyone is way overestimating how quickly Salomonsson is going to be NHL ready. With Samberg he played 3 years in college then a COVID shortened AHL year another AHL year with some injury call up time in the NHL. Obviously all prospects don't develop at the same pace but after the injury this year I would be shocked if he is anything more than a injury call up next year. 26/27 I think is a much more realistic.

I was browsing through The Athletic player cards.

Miller was 5th behind Morrissey, Samberg, Pionk, DeMelo in that order. Had him listed as about $4M value.

Stan was listed as about a $2M value and Fleury are league minimum value.

Cozens is signed for 5 more years and I think he is just what the team needs. A big, fast skating center that isn't afraid to drop the gloves and has the ability to put up points. Also, he was born in Whitehorse so he shouldn't have a problem with the winters here.

I don't see Chevy moving Ehlers to be honest. I realize he's never gone the "own rental" path in the past... but he's said repeatedly that he's committed to winning. The only way I could see Ehlers being dealt is in a hockey trade with an extension in place, or a deal for futures that involves some kind of similar pending UFA that could replace him in the top 6 this season

I dont think theres really anything on the Sabres that makes sense for the Jets. I mean Cozens i guess but he's signed for eternity at 7 mil+ per and has been pretty meh this season. Team worst -18 to boot.

Just because you are mired in shit in Buffalo doesn't mean you don't hold onto the same skill set and could really breakout big time in a better environment. Cuzons is a big fast center with a ton of puck skills. Being signed long term without trade protection is a plus for us.

You have lots of time to try to back fill. IMO, Cozens represents what we have been searching for over the last decade, a young top 6 center. Chevy is pretty cagy and I see him making something unexpected happen. I'm the opposite as I see an own rental with Ehlers as the least likely outcome with him.

That would be quite the fleece if Chevy could pull that deal off, I think we still need to add in order to get that done as Stan is worth nothing so essentially it's Fetts, Pionk and 2nd for Cozens and Byram LOL.

I think that if you really want Cozens, Salo will be a part of it. People will balk at that, which is totally understandable. But they're hurting for RHD and I bet it moves the needle

No I don't think it works, as the only thing Buffalo would want is Perfetti. They are deep at LHD so Stanley holds no value. Pionk only has value if they intend to flip him at the TDL. Pionk probably gets them a late 1st at the TDL so that actually adds value.

The cap does start to get tight once you round out the lineup. The Jets are likely to hold onto some of the vets you have gone.

When I look around, Cozens does seem to be the best target for Chevy to pursue. It is a matter of what would interest Buffalo enough. I think you have to start with Perfetti. Salo would move the needle, but I don't know if Chevy takes that leap. Maybe Perfetti and Lambert?

I don't think Vancouver moves EP40 for Cozens and Byram. Maybe Cozens and Powers.

I think the asking price for Cozens wouldn't be as high as many seem to think. The Sabres tend to give letters to players that are too young and inexperienced.
If I'm trading for Cozens, I'm including DD or Pionk and making another move for Weegar or Andersson or someone of that ability.
DD, Barlow and a 2nd should do it for Cozens.

Then, use our 1st in 2025 with another highly regarded prospect and get a good RHD with some term. Weegar fits the bill and so would Andersson if you think he would re-sign.


Why do people want Byram?
He's another LHD that isn't all that good at D.
