Would like the Jets to try something like this while Ehlers is out before we start trade talks. Perfetti should also be traded instead of Ehlers. Don't see Perfetti ever being a good top-6 player for a Cup contender. Perfetti has the two biggest flaws any NHLer could have: he's slow and soft.
Hopefully the Jets are able to resign Ehlers for whatever he wants.

Nino Scheifele Vilardi
Connor Lambert Namestnikov
Iafallo Lowry Appleton
Barron Kupari Perfetti

Morrissey Demelo
Fleury Pionk
Heinola Miller

When Ehlers and Samberg is back, something like this could work. If Lambert does well in his stint with Ehlers out, let him keep playing.

Nino Scheifele Vilardi
Connor Lambert Ehlers
Iafallo Lowry Namestnikov
Barron Kupari Appleton/Perfetti

Morrissey Demelo
Samberg Pionk
Heinola Miller
Fleury
Salomonsson
Coghlan
Lundmark
Stanley

I think that's a team that is about to hit the panic button. Would give them the chance to have Laine finish the year strong and everything about Laine seems like mental confidence, so you get your team headed in the right direction. They could wait it out but that give other teams a chance to give a better offer, and not an 8 year one.

If you're Chevy you're betting on two horses, either Montreal or Calgary to draft a player who wouldn't demand a trade.

And you have a later 1st round pick you can put on the table to make your next trade.
It was a joke referencing all the Habs fans on the main boards during the PLD threads who'd offer shit in a trade say "fine, we'll just wait until he's a UFA and sign him for nothing since he wants to play here anyway" when Jets fans turned them down

Stanley
I would personally still have Tyrel Bauer, Dmitry Kuzmin, Toby Enstrom, Sergei Bautin, Jim Kyte, Peter Taglianetti and Mark Stuart ahead of "BIG" Logan Stanley, but to each their own :)

I'll throw this one out for lamb chops. If you got closer to the deadline and it looked like Ehlers was going to walk at the end of the season would you trade him to Montreal for Kirby Dach, who looks like he has found the wrath of losing in Montreal, but has that size to go to the net that I think Arniel likes. And go for the lower of Montreal's picks top 5 protected, with a chance to draft Roger Mc Queen?
Why does Montreal trade for a rental? Maybe something like this happens if Ehlers is on board to re-sign with the Habs and it is part of the deal?

Is Ehlers really what MTL needs at this point in their rebuild though?

Seems like they're already heavy on the "skilled but not physical top six guys" with Suzuki, Caufield, Laine, etc... they really need a 23 year old Adam Lowry or two

Their GM is feeling the pressure, St. Louis is feeling the pressure. I'd be pretty confident banking on Ehlers-Laine to have a little magic, figure the centre would be Newhook. Changes the look of that team, and St. Louis can work with good skaters. I'm only talking this as a trade because Montreal would seem like the best vehicle to get a talented player like Mc Queen to replace Ehlers down the road. And if they have success from the trade there is still lots of time for Calgary to tank to get a top 10 pick that goes into the lottery. Justin Barron is the other guy who seems like he is on the way out in Montreal. I think Montreal would overpay Ehlers by a much wider margin than Chevy would at this point at that's where you can get teams into trades that have a long term advantage.

Scheifele really needs a big physical nasty winger on his line. I like Vilardi, but he just doesn’t have the nastiness required. A Tom Wilson or Brady Tkachuk type would be just what the doctor ordered.

I know people like to hate on Wilson and the Tkachuk’s because they’re Tkachuk’s, but they’re exactly what this team needs. Wilson isn’t going anywhere and if Brady ever asks out there’ll be a bidding war. Teams like Dallas, New Jersey and Rangers would be all in.

The Atlanta equivalent of Peter Taglienetti would be Garnet Exelby who played some high school hockey in my hometown.
Eric Boulton (who i played against growing up in the maritimes) was the face-puncher for the thrashers for a while too

They had Denny Lambert, Kelly Buchburger, Jeff Odgers, Steve Staios... bunch of meat heads

Let’s add a few others to the list since the bar is so low. Shawn Cronin, Bryan Maxwell and Wade Campbell.

Is Stanley disliked by Joe and Jane fan? Or just the bunch on Hf Boards?

Can’t see him sitting much based on Arnies comments. Doubt he carries any trade value outside a package deal unless he is coveted by some GM around the league.

I would view him as an addition by subtraction if he was ever claimed off waivers.

Stanley really reminds me of Pavelec in a way. Fans soured on him while the organization saw it a different way. Only difference is Stanley has been sour to many since the day he was drafted.

The guy I've been watching is Olli Maatta. 207 lbs d-man, fairly mobile. He's now playing top pairing with Sergachev in Utah, with Durzi and Marino out. On his offside. +5 in 15 games. Almost 21 minutes a night. He's averaging over 2 minutes per game on the PK.

I think this guy fits for a lot of reasons. He could play on the 3rd pairing with Miller, and lock down the PK role that Fleury and Stanley are fighting for. He could move up on to the top pairing with Josh, and move De Melo down, and Miller out of the lineup if there was an inclination to keep Fleury in over Miller. He could play his offside with Heinola, if the team is looking for another LH PKer to put in the lineup, while bringing Ville in.

Cost would probably be our 2026 2nd and maybe a secondary prospect.

Even with a sign and trade deal I don't see Habs paying that price. Or have they given up on Dach completely?

That top 5 protection on the pick is looking like a pretty high probability to kick in. Mtl is sitting in the 3rd spot right now.

Might be a more likely price if you make it Flames 1st.
