I guess it depends on if he wants that 8th year. He can get that now but can't as a FA in the summer. He is effectively having a say where he goes ala Dubois atm.

We shall see where it goes but sometimes the market isn't what you want it to be in the summer.
Hopefully in the next CBA they strengthen that team owned advantage. Maybe something like max 5 for FA and 8 for current team?

If Rantanen absolutely wants to test free agency, then no offer will get him moved today.
I don't think that's necessarily true. What if Ehlers agrees to sign a deal with Carolina in a trade?

I think the Hurricanes jump at that, and if I'm the Jets and I have to pick between Ehlers and Rantanen as a rental I'm going with Rantanen 10x out of 10

The Islanders did very well in trading Nelson. He would have been a good fit here, but as it happens every year, some people froth for days or weeks demanding the Jets acquire someone at any price, and then when the price comes out it's usually for a price that most wouldn't be willing to pay.

Hopefully Chevy can pivot to adding a quality piece on D, and find a middle 6 F as well. Centre would have been ideal, but based on the market, even adding additional scoring and size on the wings would be useful.

Who knows, maybe Chevy shocks everyone and grabs someone no ones talking about.....

If Ehlers doesn't want to talk contract now because he sees it as a distraction, what changes going to Carolina? I think Ehlers waits until the end of the year. And he's the primary own rental the Jets have. Pionk should be re-signed, maybe he's having such a good season that the numbers are too high for Chevy's liking, but I don't suspect that's the case.

Rantanen is not going to waive to come to Winnipeg. That's 99% certain. If he hedged that Dallas is a better bet than Carolina, with no taxes in Texas to sweeten the pot, I wouldn't be surprised.

Would you guys be alright with somehow getting Donato and Murphy from the Hawks?
At this point, if it’s not a 2C, I don’t want any forwards with term..just takes away from our cap options for a 2C in the offseason.
As for D… until we know what’s going on with Pionk, we should stick with short term bottom pairing depth

I'd be very surprised if we landed a true 2C at this point in time.

I doubt Buffalo even considers moving Cozens until the summer when the auction is open to all teams. Ditto for the Sens and Norris.
To bad they wouldn't take cole and nick and a first for cozens,I'm not interested in giving up the future for a rental, because I don't think our team is built for playoffs

The whole "no taxes" thing.... you just can't compete with that.

RE: Shayna Goldman (Staff Writer, NHL}

Something to keep in mind with Mikko Rantanen is that this summer is his one chance to hit free agency. And it really couldn’t have come at a better time with the rising cap in mind. Market values may be reset for top free agents, so it could be worth seeing just how big teams are willing to go to add a star winger. Also, remember, this player already had his life uprooted mid-season by surprise earlier this year. Rantanen may just need time before making a life-altering decision.

Probably the best 3C in the league 5 years ago, and went on a tear in the playoffs, but we don’t need more Lowrys. He’s not the answer to anything either.
That's funny. He's the answer to upgrading on Appleton in the top 9. He's the answer to faceoffs. Could be an answer to PK improvement. He's capable of backing up Namestnikov, who probably doesn't deserve to be demoted given how well his line is playing. But that's now, not the playoffs.

His NTC would be the obstacle. But Dylan De Melo could at least try to sell him on Winnipeg, he seems like a good ambassador for the team.

Thanks! That guy was on my ignore list so I wouldn't have known.

FWIW pagnotta says were interested in JG Pageau
Came here to suggest the same thing.

If Isles retain a bit and he waives, I wouldn't be upset about this. But considering what Lou got for Nelson, he might want a 1st for retaining on Pageau, which is too much for me.

TBH, without Nelson, I am not the least bit enthused about any forward out there. Just get a cheap depth guy at 2:59 PM. Keep your powder dry for a defenseman or two.
