That Nelson price is disgusting. Hate rentals, especially when they are 33 year old and have never played on a different team in their NHL career. We will see how he blends over these 20 games after playing 13 years on the Island.

100% okay that we didn't match that trash offer. We have a 3-4 year window. Keep your top prospects so you still have a shot in year 3-4. The rumours a week ago were we were going after depth - stick to the plan. Let these other franchises overpay.

Let the Stars and Avs beat each other in round 1 and then smash them in round 2.

Nelson would have been good, but re the Jets....

I believe where we really need to improve for the playoffs is on defence. Let's see if there is anything out there that Chevy can do there.

dreger seemed to imply that the jets didn't view nelson as being a rental
That’s what I was reading also… seemed like WPG thought they’d have a good chance at re-signing him longer term.
I got worried though when it was reported Nelson was looking for 4+ years…that’s too long for my comfort level

Lou really held things up this year with his inability to make decisions… but now that Nelson is decided, things should pick up

I have had time to think about this.
I think the Jets could be in big trouble if they can’t make a decent improvement today.
They could easily fall to third in the division now. Even if they don’t. The playoffs could eat them alive now.
I would hate to see that happen with how good they have been all year.
The Avs are 14 points back of the Jets with 19 games to go.

I get that this is tough news, but to say there’s a good chance they fall to third in the Central is ludicrous.

How was it an inability to make decisions on Lou's part? He was obviously grinding the Avs to include a top tier prospect as the main piece with a 1st round pick being the + in the trade. That is time well spent by a GM.

Now I just want to get out of this day without any Habs or Flyers players becoming Jets.
Ooooh. I think Laughton and rosto are in play. May be a rough day. Hope we don’t either but if I had to choose one it’s Philly players over have and it’s not even close.

Laughton for cheap is fine c depth. I guess.

Savard and Arimia, no thanks.
I wonder if Sawyer caught wind that we had offered Yager up for Nelson, based on his.comments last night.
what were his comments?

Yup he played it brilliantly. He held out until the deadline pitting teams against each other to drive up the price.

We continually praise Chevy for doing the same. Lou did quite well here.

No kidding, there is nowhere near enough games left for teams to make up that type of ground.

Great deal for the Isles and very happy Chevy did not pay that price.

Happy to see it seems like the Rantanen to Dallas deal is falling through, though still a possibility. That would be uhhhh very not good.

Seller's market out there, gonna have to give up a 1st to get not even impact guys it seems. Rather Chevy just add on the periphery if thats the case, adding Toffoli and Monahan didn't do anything for us last year.

Thats giving Lou a lot of credit when everyone was reporting he was still trying to extend Nelson right up to when the trade happened.
It’s more likely he was listening while negotiating and when Nelson wouldn’t budge on whatever item Lou considered his hill to die on, Lou pulled the trigger with the trade.
We will never know the truth one way or the other, but based on Lou’s history, I’d wager my idea is closer to the truth

Personally, zero interest in Marchand…zero character weasel.
Extending Ehlers would definitely put a colon capital d to today, but we still need to make some moves. It’s looking like Chevy might be avoiding the UFAs and focusing on term trades
I would take Marchand because he is gritty. This team needs that badly.
Problem is he can’t skate anymore and is cooked. He would get so exposed in the playoffs

Surprised Nelson returned a 1st and a recent 1st round caliber prospect. But not surprised by the team that did it. Bet he re-signs there too.
