A few thoughts...

The Nelson trade is wild. Avs going ALL in. It's a fall-out of the Rantanen trade. They needed an upgrade and depth badly. Now we know why all the insiders were touting the Jets for Nelson. Lou was turning the screws on the Avs to give up Ritchie. Jets couldn't have topped that with Yager, even if Chevy was willing.

We need to wait on the Stars' Rantanen deal. Unless Tulsky and the Canes get schooled, a very good roster player will be going back. My guess is that Wyatt Johnston + will be the cost (remember Dallas recently offered him an 8-year deal and it hasn't been signed). Rantanen is probably an upgrade on Johnston, which is why the Stars might do that, but it's not a pure upgrade to the lineup if that's the type of deal. It might be a bigger deal if the Stars also try to fix their RD.

The Jets have an even tougher playoff journey ahead. I'm not sure there are any big swings left that are available. There were rumours of Marchand to the Avs, but that is likely off the table. Could the Jets get him to add a real spark in the top 6? They absolutely need to upgrade their D. Not sure Risto is the answer. Would have liked Walman a lot, but not sure paying a 1st for a 3rd LD makes sense.

Finally, the Jets keeping Ehlers would be part of their "all in" scenario. If he's an "own rental", I'm questioning the value proposition. Extend him and that increases the value of keeping him. Otherwise, maybe they need to package him and go big-game hunting.

I think it would be a mistake to go after a big, slow D like Savard. Depth is fine, but it has to be playable depth. I don't see how Savard helps defend top forward groups like the Avs and Stars.

I would be suprised if it’s Johnston but I could see Stankoven. I do think Jim Nill has been pretty good in these situations so Let’s see where it lands.

Disappointed when I heard Nelson was traded to the Avs but then I saw the price and that is too steep IMO. As some on our board have said that would be like our 1st a 2nd and Yager for a guy that will be 34 at the start of next season. That is too steep a price for one playoff run IMO.

We’ll see how the day plays out.

What if the Islanders liked Ritchie better than Yager? Probably a safe assumption. So the Jets should give up Yager a 1st and a 2nd. Or Yager and 2 1sts? I mean at a certain point you have to walk away. Absolutely crazy what Stastny and Monahan went for compared to the Nelson trade.
Can't remember the last time a top prospect moved for a rental. The 1st is usually the best asset and a lesser prospect along with it.

I wonder if the Rantanen deal is dependant on an extension. And there will be roster players going the other way. Stankoven? Marchment?

I'll be greatly appreciative if the Rantanen deal falls through. This is the best Jets team we've seen (though the 2017-18 team had it all), and it feels like we're still outgunned. This could be the best chance we ever get at a cup, and it just happens to be the year where rental prices are through the roof. I know we can't afford to mortgage the future, but damn this is a bad spot to be in.

I think you have to let the day play out.

Well, go to bed dreaming of trading for Brock Nelson, wake up to the two worst possible scenarios for Nelson and Rantanen. LMFAO. Its like waking up Christmas day and not only realizing that you didnt get any presents, but also that Santa kidnapped your parents and the reindeer stomped your dog to death.

When has Chevy had all his eggs in one basket or make a panic move? Trying to outbid the Avs for Nelson would have been a panic move considering how much they overpaid.
Mixed opinion on the avs trade, this core is aging, our window is a few years so being cheap or safe at this stage is a questionable tactic. So if Chevy doesn’t land a true 2C this playoff is rounding out as a hard case to argue we’re a favourite to win a first round never mind go on a deep run.

If we land a 2C that’s close to Brock at a much cheaper price ok I agree it’s a good move. But if we run with vlad as our 2C, then we’re far from a cup favourite. IMO

Based on the return, Chevy would have had to put Yager on the table to be competitive for Nelson. I'm glad he didn't
This is true. Wouldnt havent wanted Yager traded away. Colorado mortgaging their future does make me happy. Ill be especially happy if they get bounced early and Nelson walks in the offseason.

I look at it as Nelson was a rental and i don't want that. Look at it this way these other teams in the Central know they have to get better to get by the Jets.

Unfortunately he has a full NTC. What are the chances he waives to spend the next 3 plus years in Winnipeg?

It's looking like Laughton and a dmen to me and a depth dmen to me.
his full nmc turns into a 15 team next season so the only hope would be that he knows he's going to be traded does he want to go for 3 playoff runs or 2? still a long shot but that would be the hope

Did the Avs overpay? sure they did, but they don't care. Their best players are under contract for just the next 2-3 years so they are trying to win now and not 5 years from now. They are going for it now, and they are a better team today then they were yesterday.

Just hope the Jets finish 1st so we don't have to play Colorado in the first round again.

Good because Schenn is declining by the day and certainly not getting any younger, his advanced stats aren't great and he is not exactly playing with bums, do we really want to be stuck with him for another few years for a guy about to fall off a cliff especially with that contract, no thank you.

I hope we pass on him and Laughton, especially for the prices being thrown out there.
