Kings have played one of the softest schedules in the league, so that's contributing to their "success" for sure.

We'll see if it holds up.

I do think the division being so weak makes things more interesting.
theyve also beaten the top4 teams in the west.

Definitely a weird season. Doughty goes down in preseason and defense is holding strong without him amazingly. PP is bottom
6 but honestly that’s not that surprising, since the PP has only had one season in the last 12 when it was good.

And the inconsistencies of the roster. Byfield like MIA most nights, Moore and Danault are on pace for around their averages but can’t score goals. Fiala is little kid in little league chasing butterflies and looking at flowers instead of focusing on the game. Lewis is 100, Lee and Helenius are inexperienced, Thomas and Turcotte need to stay off the scrap piles.

Then Kopitar, Kempe, Laf and Foegle are the consistent/pleasant surprises so far from the forwards.

Yet somehow with all that, they’re still doing well in the standings. Odd stuff.

It’s because their schedule has been incredibly light.

Outside of two big wins against Vegas and Winnipeg, they haven’t really impressed against legitimate contenders.

It’s this iteration of the Kings MO.

Yeah, don't forget they are a 'black hole' team just like the Minnesota Wild.

The best way to get your team out of the "Black Hole" is to make a trade with Rob Blake. Job well done Minn & Winnipeg.
No doubt they are playing great hockey right now, but this ain’t the time of the season where being hot matters.

I’d be willing to wager that it’s more likely than not they both are first round exit teams.

Part of me laments those days.

The crowds and energy inside Staples was so much better back then.

Expectations are everything.

Although I wonder if the modern NHL product is more bland than it used to be.
The modern product has been more bland for years, although the Kings have a lot to do with that for our purposes. I say that, of course, as a caveman who misses when Game 21 could have as much intensity as a current era playoff game so the argument of there being more skill now doesn't do anything for me.

I never wanted to miss a home game in-person and mostly didn't for like 15 years because I never knew what I might miss. Now? I know that I'm most likely not going to miss anything that would leave me saying "Wish I was there for that".

I think the Englund hit against the Penguins and the Byfield goal against CBJ were the only times I was pretty bummed to not have been in-person last year.

I am typing this after just putting up all my seats for sale tomorrow night, once again. I think the first game I will go to will be Edmonton at the end of the month.

A guy that even last year was still going to at least one pre-season game and currently has five seats won't be going to a game until December 28th. Never imagined this happening but Bluc has really done it to me.

It was a tongue-in-cheek comment....in regards to the above post showing the top 2 currently in the West conference standings.

I actually don't care about other teams -- just the Kings.

Yeah, I generally avoid feeding the low-rent trolls at all cost. It’s a sure fire way to degrade a decent conversation about hockey into a grade-school pissing match.

Hard to forget last season's blistering start followed by blistering fall

Have you considered simply being a social media influencer

free tickets and then the team cares what you think!

All teams win games they should not at times.. tends to even out over 82 games. As we saw last season they were winning games they shouldnt right before their giant Koala killing skid mark. Unless they get special teams going, a few lines clicking and save pct over .905 they will crater just like they did last season.. Book it.

I'd rather pay for the tickets and potentially spend money to not be there.

Of course, the organization doesn't care what the fans think since the house wasn't cleaned after last season.

Part of it could just be that you're older now and it's harder to get excited.

But I also think nowadays there's too many games, too many teams, too much parity. Not enough real fighting and big hits. The NHL has also "corporatized" the consumption of its product to make it near uniform across the league.

Combine that all with a fanbase that isn't hungry anymore because they've won multiple Stanley Cups and you've got a stale environment.

Also, is it me? Or are the intermissions too long nowadays? You don't notice as much when you're watching on TV, but when you're in the arena it feels too damn long.

It is because I am older now since being older now means I was there for a product I prefer much more.

I love when a game feels like it is on the edge of a riot breaking out and we used to have players on nearly every team that had the potential to incite said riot. I mean, I've been saying this for over a decade now but these players weren't replaced with tremendous skill players, they were replaced by a bunch boring players that can skate but not score, hit, or fight. These shifts are now commercial breaks during live play. The fact they can skate also means that the real skill players can't feast on them either so removing toughness for this "skill" doesn't mean more scoring.

As Adam Ant said in "Goody Two Shoes": "Don't drink, don't smoke: what do you do?"

The enforcer era is long gone and I've already accepted that, but there are too many teams that are just flat out boring. If your favorite team sucked, you'd still get entertainment. Now, you just suck and it doesn't look like the team cares that they suck. There is more money in it and these guys are mostly not looking to take some guy's paycheck away whereas the old days had guys who would do anything for their own paycheck. Is it more civilized now? Sure. Is it more entertaining? Absolutely not.

The intensity of hockey and the bad blood aspect--coupled with the insane skill--is what finally pulled me away from basketball in the mid-90s to where it became my favorite sport and it soon overtook football. You take that away and I might as well be watching basketball again.

I care much more about my fantasy football team than the Kings. Flew to England because I couldn't miss two games against the Ducks. Sure, I'm older and busier but I would make the time if it was worth it but they continually leave me with the feeling of "Once again, I did not miss anything" after I watch the game from the comfort of my couch on DVR.

Decent conversation and trolling ?

Somebody dares to say something remarkable/positive.

Than you call the schedule not just light but incredibly light with just two wins vs. legitimate contenders on top of it.

This while nobody even knows who is legitimate and we have to read every single day that the Kings are 1st round playoff fodder.

The latter might be true but are we gonna repeat this every single day until april ?

Have they done anything remarkable to prove otherwise?

I'm all ears for reasonable conversation

But blind and judgmental optimism from the same posters over and over is gonna meet the usual fate

Yes it works both ways but there was not much blind optimism in that particular quote but even that needed to be shot down.

The last seasons we had to read LA constantly messed it up vs bottom feeders. Now they win most of those and a new argument is born…a light schedule.

Its getting terribly annoying, yes.

Perhaps.
But at the end of the day the Kings have had worse playoff success with each season.

There are some very bright spots this season but also some things to be very concerned about.

Before this current win streak, the Kings consistency was something to be very concerned with.
They remind of my friend who is always trying to lose weight

Eating binge
Followed by "I need to lose weight" with a short period of strictly regimented keto diet
Followed by an easing of the diet but still some results
Followed by binging

The Kings before this streak were that guy
Bad loss
Adolf Hiller drops the hammer and they play an almost perfect game
Next game siouch off a little but still win
Next game back to old habits and lose ,
rinse, repeat

The good news is they currently have broken the cycle.

Here is the schedule for reference, with a good starting point

I’ve legit only watched like 7-8 full games this entire season. I have zero interest for the first time in my life as a Kings fan. There is no passion in this team and no one gives a shit. And the rookies are bums and the only good one the Kings traded.

Nothing to get up for.
