Oh, you’re claiming trading a 34 year-old Giroux on the last month of his contract for Owen Tippett & a 1st rd pick isn’t “moving forward”?

Great point.

It's pretty much just Giroux for Tippett.

That 1st round pick was kicked down the road some more and will probably take the average 3-5 years of "development" to reach the NHL.

So, great point.

Developed dmen quite well at NHL level.

I remember when Myers, Hagg, Ghost, and Provorov were the next big thing. Only Sanheim remains of that group.

Sbisa was handled gloriously. Cam York is as vanilla as they come, and they are doing a great job with Andrae.

okay then
I think Charles confuses development with traded for already great Dmen

Never mind that York is going in a troubling direction this year as he becomes even safer, which is the last thing he needed.

This one may be more befuddling than saying the Flyers are good at developing goalies.

The Flyers have barely had any half decent home grown defenseman in my lifetime, let along great ones.

If there’s one thing that they’re absolutely not good at it’s developing defenseman.
Was just looking through the history of drafted Dmen and woof it was not pretty. Watson, Seidenburg, Yuskevich, Niinimaa, Ghost as top 5 drafted? Just taking a stab

Everyone worries about the mythical goalie curse, but the real curse is their horrific scouting and development of dmen. They're incredible at goalies by comparison.

You forgot to mention Morin. That was supposed to be a cup caliber defense.

Hell, even their eye for forwards seems to be trending down.

It's tanked very very hard since Hextall took over and set new priorities. They've been completely broken since then. His scouting and development values are the things the team adored most about him. Still in place unchanged.
