This team is really going to keep laughton and risto and pretend they are rebuilding.

Future team President St. Scott of Laughton will be extended, not traded

Future developmental Coach Ristolainen will not be traded, he will simply retire as a Flyer with his non playoff streak intact.

But don’t worry, Frost will be dealt for a 4th in March and Farabee will packaged with that 4th, have half his contract retained, and moved for a late 2nd at the draft
Well at least they won;t add a two this time to trade players.

I’m an outsider wondering about Farabee. I haven’t watched many Flyers games this season but in the games I’ve watched he seemed more tentative than I’ve seen him before, like he’s gripping his stick too tight and has lost confidence.

I really thought that he would at least replicate last year’s production and likely improve on it. But he has only 6 goals and it’s almost halfway through the season. What’s up with him? Have you lost hope in him turning out to be the player he projected to be early in his career?
He’s among the next to go, whatever he’s supposed to be, he was slowed by a neck injury and had the ADR that Jack Eichel had, but Torts didn’t want him to use it as an excuse, so they haven’t been in the same page.

Farabee has passing skill but he's really just an OK/Meh player. He's not super smart, he's not fast, he's not big, and he's not elusive enough to get himself open. On a line with a dominant centre and a really fast RW, he could play the set up man role. Otherwise, he's never been noticable.

In retrospect, the expectations on him as a 1st rounder were unfair, since it was an incredibly crappy draft. Looking back, there are really only about 12 players worth taking in the first, and a couple goalies drafted later who are still playing. 2018 NHL Entry Draft Picks at hockeydb.com

To me, the team is quickly crashing toward rock bottom.

What ever optimism I had from encouraging quotes is gone. Theyve once again trapped themselves into their owm echo chamber which has created a self indulgent environment with no oversite or accountability.

As always, the deep rooted organizational philosophy that has doomed every past regime has fully taken over again with this one. The philosophy that significantly over values intangibles and bottom of the line up player is now the guiding light.

The priority is no longer building to the future. The decisions being made on and off the ice are now exclusively about doubling and tripling down on the "flyers way" which will prioritize the Cates' of the world at the expense of players like Michkov.

Rather than focus on the true issue which is this team just isnt talented enough, theyll be perfectly happy celebrating meaningless signs of competativeness as long as its on the backs of the "culture" guys.

Michkov is a worse player than he was in october. That is really the only thing fact needed to know whatba disaster this is.

Torts likes to hang his hat on being able to fluff up below average players like Cates, Poehling, Seeler, et al. What he never wants to get into is how he has wrecked the performance of good players like Farabee, Cates and the like. He just wrecks first round draft choices. Must be jealousy.

Foerster, Tippett, TK are all 1st rd picks, how come they're thriving under Torts?

Farabee's problem this year is finishing.
two years before Torts
xGF 47.23%, 45.50% HDCF 46.69%, 46.91%, pp/60: 2.17, 1.92, Sh% 17.50, 13.16
two years with Torts
xGF 51.29%, 48.69%, HDCF 50.57%, 50.55%, pp/60: 2.25, 1.03, Sh% 12.16, 5.56
His other issue is fit, average speed, not physical enough along the boards to be a mucker, good shooter with good hands but struggles in front of the net.
He has played best with Couts, they're about the same with TK or Hathaway,

Frost
two years before Torts
xGF 48.23%, 48.25% HDCF 47.13%, 46.52%, pp/60: 1.32, 2.02, Sh% 5.97, 13.33
two years with Torts
xGF 54.10%, 50.95%, HDCF 55.77%, 43.70%, pp/60: 1.77, 1.68, Sh% 8.70, 13.04
Frost has been best with Michkov, and both have been best with Laughton at LW

The problem this season is fit, putting together lines that complement and have chemistry, and not a collection of misfit toys.

My mistake here. I meant Farabee, Frost and other first rounders

Of course he is, he hit the rookie wall.
Michkov has said he's learning how to mentally handle an 82 game schedule.

Did you think Michkov was going to be an instant star at 19?

Kucherov, 52g 6-8 14 (ES) at 20 years old, next season 27-23 50 ES, hit 100 points at 24
Panarin came over at 24 and was an instant star
Kaprizov came over at 23
Even Pastrnak, who started at 18, didn't become a "star" until 2 seasons later.

Michkov is on track for 60 points as a rookie. That's more than fine.

It has nothing to do with Tortorella.

There are literally hundreds of first round picks who have thrived in the league and did not play under your God Emperor, you know that right?

I didn't say Torts made TK, my point was he didn't ruin 1st rd picks.
People talk out of both sides of their mouths:
"Torts is an awful HC, look how bad they are"
"They have no talent, they need to tank."

The reality is this team is playing excellent hockey at ES, the problem is STs and the goalies.
Players are developing and improving, there is a core of a good team.
They need more talent, (2) centers, a physical two way D-man, a starting goalie who can stay healthy.

Just comes down to this draft. If they hit 3 of the top 6 picks with a 1C and a 1D we are in business. Anything less than that, I likely sign off for another decade or more.

Top 6 C would be fine, as would a top 4 D-man. And two other solid prospects.
Whether draft or trading those picks as part of a package.

Frost, Cates, Jett, top 6 C
Foerster, Tippett, Couts, Farabee
Michkov, TK, Brink, ???

York - Sanheim
Andrae - Bonk
top 4 D - Drysdale
Zamula
