The positive in my eyes is that even if they don’t sell off they are right there at the bottom. Whether Briere is successful or not they’ll likely be in a position to draft blue chip talent. I am all for roughing out the next 3-4 years. No Kevin Hayes like stopgaps, no trading 1sts (depending, of course). The worst thing you can be in hockey is mediocre and thankfully it looks like the Flyers are out of that purgatory. Briere just can’t put us back there. It’s inferno or Paradiso, for me
Briere has shown no sign he has any interest in Hayes/JVR signings, Niskanen type trades, etc.
They've built forward depth, one reason Lycksell is in LHV is he can't break into the top 9 right now, and they don't want him playing 8 minutes a night on the 4th line (Cates, Poehling, Hathaway all play on the PK as well).

What they need is more top 6/top 4 talent.

If Drysdale is a bust so be it. Just admit the mistake and don’t double down. If I was Briere I’d be playing the long game thinking that outside of Michkov, the core of the future team isn’t here yet. I was optimistic about Drysdale at first but I’d be surprised if he turns into a core player. I don’t think Gauthier was going to move the needle a ton either, and he’d be more of a supporting cast who can get 30 goals and 60 points, maybe. The Flyers need elite game-breaking talent. Even without selling off they are close enough to the bottom with no help coming from the prospect pool for a few years. Perfect time to drag the bottom for a few years and get high end talent. Forget guys like Gauthier and Drysdale, and get guys like Hagens, Martone, Misa, or Schaefer. Most of the roster right now is just placeholders in my vision
Lotta place holders on 8 year deals.

Tippett averages 27 goals, 51 points the last two years. Is that a placeholder?
TK, Sanheim, York, Farabee?

The President, who is higher than the GM, said it himself once they have cap space they will spend. Be right back in it.

Didn't he try to trade for Krug? They built forward depth. Jesus Christ. Thier forward depth is nothing special in any way. Nothing to get excited about at all. How you can seriously pump up this team is very valiant to me. Not talking Luscious Johnny or Handsome Jimmy either.

If that is the core you're building around than where do you see this team going? Fighting tooth and nail for the 8th spot every year?

So, want to be clear. Do you see Tippet as core member of this team?

Good list, Big. I'd move Ersson to potential for core and Andrae in useful but not critical. Goaltending is about the only position where I believe the Flyers have a high chance of having the long-term answer in house.

Forward depth!?!?!?! They're one Couturier or TK injury away from being dead in the water! They have nothing in the wings. Nothing.

If the Flyers share your devotion to antiquated 70s visions of 4th lines then it's a major insight into why they're nonstop failures in a cap era that emphasizes efficiency over all.

Briere just signed Tippett for eternity. That's a Hayes/JVR-tier signing; and I'm not using hindsight here, please recall I urgently urged that they trade him at peak value instead of doing what they did. He traded for Johnson. That's the crackhead's version of trading for Niskanen.

Travis Konecny and Travis Sanheim in the "stuck with" category sounds a little harsh.
Both are legit and young enough to still contribute in 3-5 years. Similar to what Kimmo Timonen and Dany Briere meant to the 2010ish Flyers.

Flyers should have signed Tyanulin this past summer. He played in NA for 5 years so didn't need to get used to new culture and spoke English fluently. He's natural LW, played with Michkov for 2 seasons and had great chemistry with him. And he can play hockey. He's PPG right now on shity Sochi team, and he's one of those players who can play both top6 and bottom6 roles equally well. Great skater, gritty, can PK and very skilled.

He's certanly better than Richards and any other Flyers LW but probably Farabee and Tippett. And even then he's certainly smarter than Tippett and can pass. The only problem he's small. But if the same size Andrae can play defense then Tyanulin could play LW for sure.

Charlie thinks they send down one of the goalies when York comes back. Either Koloslov or put Fedotov through waivers.

I’m not saying that’s the wrong choice given what you’re looking at currently but it’s hilarious they got to this point. Bad moves/evaluations compounding themselves.
If Fedotov was to get claimed, so what? The organization loses a contract which they could well afford to do. Kolosov looks to be the better of the two Russian goalies at this point. Makiniemi is with them at LV if they need to bring up a third goalie for whatever reason.

Well yeah but nobody is claiming him with that contract so that’s a moot point. My point was they paid this guy a decent contract & we’re already at place where we’re considering possibly sending him down tot he minors. That’s a bad evaluation/move.
