Does Danny have the final say? Or is it a majority rule?
Of course he has the final say, but has to depend on his scouts, though more so outside the 1st rd, where the number of potential picks expands into the 100s.

GM has time to look at film of top prospects and question scouts, by the 3rd round or so he's pretty much dependent on his scouts (he has other duties than watching film).

So is it good or bad that we have essentially the same scouting group you've pegged as a failure?

You can't stop blaming Hextall.

It's been 6 years. This is firmly on CF and Briere now. Didn't have to add Johnson last year....or this year. Briere chose to do both.
Johnson was needed for the stretch run, traded Walker, Seeler, Drysdale injured. Unless you wanted to see more of Staal!

The reason they brought him back was probably Briere looking at the AHL roster and going meh.
No one ready for prime time right now, maybe by spring?
I mean would you feel comfortable with Attard, Grans or Samson at RHD?

Why did they need a veteran D-man? Because Hextall blew two chances at landing a young starter in 2018. That's a fact. If he hits, maybe CF doesn't obtain Risto. Dominoes.

The Flyers will constantly fail at drafting in the later rounds because half their picks are from that select group that have a high percentage of failure(I forget which twitter guy posted it). Their draft processes have been garbage for multiple years, so they'll never get an opportunity to actually uncover multiple useful prospects in those later rounds. This isn't just a GM problem, the whole process is the problem.

But they haven't failed, out of 32 or so picks from 2014-18 you'd expect 3-4 to make it. 10-13%

We'll see in 3-4 years how 2019-2024 works out, 2019 is now 6 years, no one will make it, 2020 is 5 years, Andrae and Desonyers have a chance, 2021, Tuomaala and Kolosov, too early for 2022 and later.

Andrae and Desnoyers have no chance. Kolosov is finished.

You're spelling out failure, if we should expect 10-13% and get nothing.

No he wasn't as he was/is shot. He was bad in Buffalo.

Well this is a new one Ronald is partly to blame for Risto. Didn't Chuck say he liked Risto for years and wanted him or something to that effect?

What are the two chances Hextall had in 2018 you're referring to?

Weal had 218 games, Rinaldo 374, VDV 278, Cousins 592, Weise 513, Hagg 343, Folin 244, Gustaffson 455 (and counting)
but Varone 92, Knight 52, Myers 158, Andreoff 188.

Basically you have to be marginal enough to be last player starter/first guy off the bench and stay healthy for a number of years. So start for a year or two and be top reserve for 3-4 years.

The JOB (#19) and Ginning (#50) picks - in both cases multiple D-men were on the board.

Always love the hindsight possibilities....what defenseman would you have taken at 50?

Inexcusable pick. Never gets talked about. Set the team back as well.

I’d say the Flahr regime has made 6-7 worse decisions, without hindsight, in the first 2 rounds than the JOB pick.

The JOB is the best miss they made in recent memory because they recouped a 51st overall. Usually you just blow the ELC and the value turns to dust (e.g. Ratcliffe, Laberge). They could’ve drafted a potential steal like Teddy Stiga. Of course they totally wasted it on Berglund. But in theory!

Reading some of these Luchanko comments are bizarre. For the past several years it's been all about "why are we playing vets over kids?! Torts and the Flyers hate youth!" Now there's a chance our first rounder unexpectedly makes the team and people are upset because they want him to go back to Jrs because they think this is a PR stunt or trying to distract from something like not trading Laughton?

He's looked good from what I've seen and read. Not going to win the Calder or anything but isn't this what most people have clamoring for? But we want him sent down so Cates or Deslauriers or whomever can be in the lineup? You guys will complain about anything.

Getting Farabee a few picks earlier saved that first round from being a complete debacle.
Trading Schenn and then draft a nothing player with that pick would've been much more painful.

And the Rangers should of picked Giroux. What's your point?
Someone asked why we needed a RHD. My point was we had no young D-men b/c we blew two oppportunities to nail one in that draft.

My take is this will resolve itself.

High probability is that Luchanko will be exposed as the competition gets tougher.

However, if he can show he belongs in the last 3 exhibition games (and if he plays in them it means they're thinking about it) against teams preparing for the season, then they might decide to keep him.

But this requires more than just showing up, he has to show he can play at a high level against NHL players - otherwise he doesn't move the needle and is better off in the CHL.
