Funny, they had no problem finding a spot for Michkov.

Players can win spots in TC, but it shouldn't be easy, there's no reason to play a marginal prospect over a proven player unless the prospect jumps out at you.

Farabee - Couts - Michkov
Tippett - Frost - TK
Foerster - Laughton - Brink
Cates - Poehling - Hathaway

If there was a NHL ready center in the system, he'd should be able to beat out Laughton at 3C.
Lycksell is the only prospect with a real shot at cracking this lineup.
The others are going to get more seasoning.

York - Sanheim
Seeler - Drysdale
Zamula - Risto

Zamula is the most vulnerable starter, they're not pairing Andrae with Drysdale (blind leading the blind). They want to showcase Risto, his defensive improvement and size might make him moveable next summer.

The inevitable injuries will create opportunities for prospects to show they're deserving of a promotion, but once a prospect gets a shot at PT, it's up to him to "Wally Pipp" the player he replaced.
Attard is better than risto and drysdale, yet he stays in the ahl, drsydale is more talented but is always hurt, risto is what he is and it's not as good as attard

I’m willing to give Drysdale a chance, but Risto is garbage. However this is the Flyers, where sub standard vets are revered and kids are doomed to toil in obscurity under the brain dead tutelage of Lappy so don’t expect Attard in Philly any time soon.

That is the best you can come up with?

There are no spots to be won. You know this yest you continue to argue otherwise. Zamula is I agree the only possible one, though will they want to risk him on waivers?

Having no NHL ready prospects is a sad indictment on the Flyers development process; one that you defend. Oh the good ole injures then they will get that chance. That happened last year and they still snubbed Attard and Ginning.

There are no positions up for grab because the Flyers don't allow it. When you can't control center ice, you can't compete in the game. The reason that the Flyers don't have more competition and better play at center is because they won't take the steps necessary to improve the talent at that position. The chances of them drafting a top center are minimal with where they select. That leaves them with only one path open to get that guy-a trade. It's going to cost but it's time to ante up and get it done. Rolling out Coots/Frost/Laughton/Poehling isn't going to cut it. Move out a wing with some draft choices, eat some money and get it done.
As for defense, there's no one on the blue line that stands out as not being expendable. All of those positions should be up for the taking.

Exactly
Laughton…still here
Hathaway…still here
Tk…still here and now extended

All of the above should have been dealt last season or at the last draft. Same with Seeler on D and EJ shouldn’t have been re-signed.

But hey, loading up on veteran mediocrity and making foolish contract decisions is the Flyers way.

They did their utmost to keep Walker too. He'd be here if he were willing to take a paycut.

Scott Laughton going into his 12th season with the organization is a perfect encapsulation of how completely stuck in mediocrity this organization is.
Sometimes I forget how long he's been with the Flyers....

I wonder how many picks after ~20 have stayed with their draft club for 10+ years.

Frost just needs another 3 years.... as does Cates.

TK needs one, which I assume he will get to.

To make the research easier, I stuck to just Laughton's draft year, and used 500 NHL games as the minimum; if you've been with an org 10 years, but only had a cup of coffee in the NHL, that's not super interesting to me.

Players taken after Laughton in the 2012 draft, 500+ games, same team:
Colton Sissons
Adam Pelech
Esa Lindell
Colton Parayko
Jaccob Slavin
Connor Hellebuyck

Damon Severson passed 500 games with the Devils before being moved to the Blue Jackets last year.

Told you the defender would show up.

4 drafts ...19, 20, 21, and 22....24 picks(given 28)....and only 3 are on the roster and none to be added to those 3 as a regular this year. Maybe this is why our prospect group is trash, beyond MM.

All while missing the playoffs 5 of the last 6 years....and will miss this year.

Risto is a much better skater and more skilled overall than Attard.

And under Shaw, he's become a good defensive defenseman, albeit at the cost of some offense, but you gotta walk before you run. The problem is the contract, not the player.

Attard has a plus shot for a D-man, good size and he's no longer a gross liability on defense, but he has below average speed and has to be careful attacking the O-zone not to get caught up ice.

2019: York, Brink, with Attard on the bubble
2020: Foerster, Andrae on the bubble
2021: no 1st rd, Tuomaala on the bubble
2022: Gaither/Drysdale, no 2nd rd pick, McDonald on the bubble, Bump has a good shot in a couple years
2023: Michkov, Bonk, Barkey, Sotheran, Zavragin, Bjarnason

"On the bubble" - good shot at competing/being promoted for a roster spot this year or next year.
Helps to have extra draft picks instead of trading them away.

Good? He's become a 3rd pairing level defender on a mediocre defense.

There is no bubble if they do not get to play more than a handful of games
