The 2019 draft is just turning out to be total shit.

Out of the 1st 2 rounds, I would say that the best players to come out of that draft so far (in no order):

Jack Hughes
Byram (Injury history)
Seider
Cozens
Boldy
Knight
Cam York (I guess?)
Caufield
Newhook (I guess?)
Kochetkov
Vlasic

It's all subjective but man there's not a whole lot of talent that found any sort of success at the NHL level just yet.

Vlasic is top 3 player out of that draft in my opinion.

Wow... If he improves a little bit more he's right there with Seider and Boldy for the the second best player. If he isn't already on that level.

What a steal Vlasic turned into, I would have never ever guessed it.

Everyone forgets Harley.

Also Byram had one good year during the cup run for the Avs. He’s been terrible on the Sabres. And Cozens is struggling badly too, but I still like him.

Looks like we got that top pairing D that I wanted out of the 2019 draft after all!

How many of these players have you watched lately? Zegras, Byram and Cozens have been all very not good. Hell even Seider isn’t having the season you’d think he would.

But another guy who’s really broken out is McMichael. It’s not nearly as night and day as you make it.

I would just say give that draft like two more years and you might start to see a bit more consistency from some players. Looking through the list, there are some players that have shown some things, but are maybe still waiting for it all to come together or to build up enough of a track record to get more attention.

What do you mean night and day? I literally said 5 guys were questionable comparing them to Vlasic.

IMO Seider Hughes and Boldy are better and I would gladly take any of them 1 for 1.

Martinez, Jones, and Mrazek all skated this morning. We'll probably see Korchinski, Crevier, and Commesso sent down pretty soon but I'd like to see Commesso get one more start before Mrazek comes back.

If I couldn't write positive stories about Blackhawks players with poor analytics, I'd have very few positive stories to write... I think Allan has been admirably steady considering the situation around him, even though he hasn't been perfect. Not to complain because I love my job, but it's not easy to cover such an awful team (for years and years) and still strike the right balance of positivity and negativity. Inevitably I'm sometimes stretching for positives.
My post was criticism of another poster on this board, not you at all. I always enjoy reading your stuff.

Yeah, I hear ya. It was fun writing about Hawks for the few years that I indulged but as the team bottomed out it became a chore trying to find the positive.

As for Nolan Allan: It's difficult to criticize his play. I liked the pick at the time and he hasn't disappointed. Allan is especially impressive when you consider he is a 21-year-old rookie playing on a terrible team. I also think he has some offense in him that should become evident as the team improves. He and Vlasic are the bright spots as far as I'm concerned.

In an unrelated note, I was starting to wonder how some of my thoughts made it into the Sun Times :)
