Reading the Ottawa boards, they seem pretty convinced Tkachuk is going to want out if they miss the playoffs. Rumors around town let’s call it.

If that’s the case, that’s the target. You do whatever it takes to get him here.
He has a full no move clause that kicks in at some point (I think it would be July 1st, 2025).

Even if you do get a deal done before then (or if he waives to come here) he’s a ufa in 2 years. If the entire premise for him leaving Ottawa is not making the playoffs then he won’t be much happier here for the next 2-3 years which makes resigning him a huge issue

That doesn’t really make any sense in theory. He wants out because of missing the playoffs so he is fine with a trade to the worst team in the league?

Not to mention I’m not sure Hawks should be giving up picks/prospects yet for players unless we know for a fact Rantanen and Marner have signed extensions.

Marner, Rantanen, and Kaprizov are the only UFAs anytime soon that are elite and can be signed while they're still under 30 years old. I'm all for any of them if you can convince them to come here.

Much rather that vs signing grandpas like Taveras, Benn, or Marchand.

Suprised that Allan has played so much with Murphy. When things hit fan with Allan on ice it is usually with Brodie.

If rumour that his contract has "must be captain clause" you pass him quickly.

This might sound crazy, but I don't think we should wait until 2025-26 to trade for a center. I would be pretty aggressive in the trade market now. I don't think Kyle should overpay, and centers are coveted; but this is pretty futile depth. As mentioned earlier by others, this team is super thin down the middle, and although Dickinson had two goals last game playing with 98, he's not a typical top-six center. I think Dickinson would be a respectable third-line center on a good team, and a fourth-line center on a true Cup contender. Feel free to correct me if I'm understating his two way play at all.

I just look at the YoY Bedard goal-scoring regression and fact we're dead last in the standings again and really just want the game to be fun for him. He deserves to play with a quality center at all times (even if Dickinson can last on his line, what happens if he gets hurt?). We're terrible on faceoffs as a club and have been for a very long time. I just can't really stomach the fact we have a kid with an absolutely lethal shot, and he isn't always given an opportunity to play with guys who can win draws or help aid in creating time and space so he can get that patented shot off on goaltenders. Couple nice assists last night, but the last few games, he's struggling just to even get the puck on net.
I am banging the drum for Mat Barzal (27) signed until he is 34. Islanders may be looking to sell and rebuild and Barzal has size, speed, possession ability Bedard needs out of a center

Anywhooo, I see Frost has been scratched 3 times in a row now.

Blackhawks really need to take a shot and get Philly to send him over. Idk what his advanced stats say now, but he's at least in the 50% FO range which is also a boost if he comes to Chicago

Friedman seems to think the Hawks and Frost are a match. I haven't watched enough of him to form an opinion on whether or not he'd be a good pick up for the Hawks.

2.1M cap hit and a RFA after this season. A hair over 50% at the dot.

If all it costs is a 3rd then I'm all for it.

We have the Dallas 2nd rounder, but I'm a bit hesitant on giving that up for him. I don't think I'd complain all that much if we did, though.

How about one of the 2nds in 2026? I think we have 3

I have been wanting Frost for a while if people remember

Get on phone

To :flyers
Leafs 2026 2nd

To :hawks
C Morgan Frost (RFA)
Hurricanes 2025 5th
Isn't a 2nd round pick a lot to give up for what probably amounts to a reclamation project? Is he really likely to fare better in Richardson's coaching environment than he did in Torts'?

Frost for a late future 2nd (like the '26 Leafs) would be an interesting roll of the dice. Fills a short term need at C while we wait for prospects to develop and there is always a chance he blossoms with a change of scenery (away from Torts) and becomes a long term piece. The Odds of a pick in the mid to late 50's turning into even an NHL player are pretty long, and if Frost clicks maybe you end up with a guy that is a decent 3rd line C when the Ha2wks are good again.

Yes, I'm sure Frost, who can't get in a lineup on a shit team, will be a good 1st line C for another shit team. More than likely he comes here and sucks as well.
Maybe, Maybe not. Dickinsons our best center right now and he was an afterthought and cap dump 2 years ago. At least hes an actual center. Nobody thinks hes a 1C but someone will play center on the line Bedard plays on.

Actually, there still isn’t any context. You’re claiming Allan has bad results with sheltered deployment against relatively poor competition. That tells you what’s happening on the ice (theoretically at least. I don’t love corsi). It still doesn’t tell you how or why it’s happening
far be it from me to defend musto, but this is shifting the burden of proof. the facts at hand are that allan's possession numbers are bad (even relative to a very bad possession team), and that his deployment has been more sheltered than either of his most common partners, brodie and murphy. each of these players also have better possession numbers without allan than with him, despite starting in the defensive zone more often. the reverse is true for allan himself.

now, in the face of these objective statistical facts, the burden is on the eyetesters to demonstrate why the statistics are misleading. rather than doing this, it is almost always asserted that they are misleading with no video evidence, certainly no countervailing statistical evidence, not even anecdotal accounts of moments that would suggest a confounding variable. it's simply taken as gospel that if the numbers disagree with what the majority report that they "saw", then the numbers must be wrong.
