2024-25 Roster…too soon?

Maybe on a one year deal but we currently have Teravainen and Bertuzzi already underperforming for about $11m AAV combined right now. Hard pass on adding another bloated UFA deal for a guy in his mid 30's whose best years are behind him.

Save that UFA money for Kaprizov

Boeser is a guy I would take a run at in Free Agency

Young and could give us what the Cat gave us. From Minnesota.

He is 27 and will be 28 for his next contract in the off-season

It's not being talked about but Nolan Allan needs more time in Rockford.

EDM's turn to come up and take his place
Only caught the first half of the game last night, so maybe I missed something glaring in the second half, but why do you think Allan needs to go down?

From what I have seen this season of Rockford, EDM hasn’t even been playing particularly well.

Come on, you know with that one they hate Allan because their draft board said he was taken too early. It doesn't matter how Allan plays, the draft board-related hate flows eternally.

Proof that you have no idea what you’re watching.

Nolan Allan has been really solid so far this season.

I didn’t want to go there but that crossed my mind lol.

He’s had some rookie mistakes (very few) but overall he’s played a really nice defensive game.

Musto hoping he sucks to validate his draft day tantrum is very on brand.

Maybe I'm not being as alarmist as I should be, but I look at Hawks roster and I see a lot of old guys without longterm commitments. I don't want to see Bedard frustrated of course but he's a grownup, he'll be fine if his points start flowing again.

Being at the bottom of the standings is a better case scenario than finishing in 24th place. I like the top of the draft but it doesn't seem like the kind of draft that's 15 players deep if you know what I mean.

If my instincts are right, they will give Nazar, Dach and Slaggert all opportunity to be regulars on next year's roster. Added to Bedard and Reichel, that would give the 2025-26 Hawks Five 23 And Under (born 2002 or later) Forwards, to add to a list of young defensemen, with more 1st/2nd/3rd round picks likely to come.

Would love to see the Hawks walk away with a high impact player from this Draft, which likely does require a high pick. I want the Hawks to be competitive and well positioned during Bedard's RFA years. Where they are in five years matters to me a lot more than the fact they keep losing games in which they trail by 1 goal in the third period late.

Nolan Allen has outplayed both Martinez and Brodie, I would argue he has been at very least 4th best dman

Right now he's the worst defenseman on the team

Has the Lukas Reichel problem of playing incredibly sheltered minutes, but still struggling
Musto's scouting skills showing their worth again.

As has been mentioned, Allan has been better than both Martinez and Brodie so far this year. I actually think he has been just as good (if not a tad better) than Kaiser, but to be fair Kaiser has played harder minutes. Allan has been better in the NHL this year than EDM has been in the AHL and yet you are calling for them to switch places.

You're willfully ignoring the second part
Is he playing sheltered minutes? Sure. Very little PK time, most shift starts are on the fly, and quality competition goes to Vlasic, Jones, and Murphy as it should.

But given that he's paired with Brodie 5x5 more than any other Hawks defender levels that out.

Jones is out for the next month.

This might sound crazy, but I don't think we should wait until 2025-26 to trade for a center. I would be pretty aggressive in the trade market now. I don't think Kyle should overpay, and centers are coveted; but this is pretty futile depth. As mentioned earlier by others, this team is super thin down the middle, and although Dickinson had two goals last game playing with 98, he's not a typical top-six center. I think Dickinson would be a respectable third-line center on a good team, and a fourth-line center on a true Cup contender. Feel free to correct me if I'm understating his two way play at all.

I just look at the YoY Bedard goal-scoring regression and fact we're dead last in the standings again and really just want the game to be fun for him. He deserves to play with a quality center at all times (even if Dickinson can last on his line, what happens if he gets hurt?). We're terrible on faceoffs as a club and have been for a very long time. I just can't really stomach the fact we have a kid with an absolutely lethal shot, and he isn't always given an opportunity to play with guys who can win draws or help aid in creating time and space so he can get that patented shot off on goaltenders. Couple nice assists last night, but the last few games, he's struggling just to even get the puck on net.

Imagine not realizing how much worse Brodie and Martinez have both been.
Brodie and Martinez are driving the exact same results as Allan.

The difference being, they're not as sheltered as he is.

I know it probably looks like they're close, but Allan is only getting matched up against scrubs so he's not actually outplaying Brodie and Martinez.

You guys are looking at things at surface level. It's the same reason you all think Reichel is having a great season.

In terms of CF%, Kaiser and Jones are driving the best results on the roster at even strength. Then everyone else is about the same.

But look at the deployment.

Take Vlasic for example. His CF% is about the same as Allan, but he's getting the toughest matchups out of everyone and logging heavy minutes. So naturally it's much harder to thrive in that role. All things considered, Vlasic is doing quite well because he's being asked to do the most.

On the flip side, Allan is asked to do WAY LESS than everyone else and he's struggling. He needs more time in Rockford, plain and simple. That's not a bad thing. I don't know why some of you are upset about the truth.
