He would be good for the first 5-6 years of the contract.

After that he would still be serviceable. He would be 34 at the end of the deal. That's not super old. It's not like he would be 37.

Again, he's going to get bumped down the lineup by younger players and then you're going to have a 31-year-old DeBrusk on a bloated contract that you're going to have to pay to move. That's what's going to happen if you give DeBrusk 7 years.

I'm good with 4-5 years.

Hopefully in the 3rd year of the contract we are a playoff team. He was good in the playoffs for the Bruins this year.

You don't give depth guys term. Unless it's way below market value.

I wouldn't call Debrusk a depth guy. He's scored 25 goals 3 times. He's a middle 6er for sure.

A guy you've got penciled in to play on your third line long term is a depth guy.

I don't have him on the 3rd line.

Right but you can't actually think DeBrusk is a long-term fit on the first line. Which means, when he's slotted properly, he's on the 2nd or 3rd line -- like he is right now with the Bruins.

He's the Blake Coleman of this UFA class.

You called him a middle sixer. If you think he's a top six guy for the next seven years we can disagree but I'd understand the sentiment more.

He is a middle 6er. But he can play with Bedard. He can be the 3rd wheel on the top line.

Debrusk-Bedard-Kurashev would be fine next year.

He's rugged with skill and he goes to the front of the next. That's exactly what Bedard needs.

Right but you don't sign a middle six guy for seven years when he fits a role for a year or two.

Debrusk is probably about as good of a fit for a Bedard linemate that you’ll find in free agency this year (Bar Guentzel and Reinhart)

Problem is he’s only 28 and is coming off of a nice postseason so he’s probably going to be able to get term a bit beyond what we’d comfortably be able to give him at this stage in a rebuild

Jump in there Kyle!

Seriously if Leafs are looking to move Lily for anything to avoid having to not qualify him (Been potentially speculated) to avoid arbitration the Hawks should jump in there

Perfect for 3rd RD spot this coming year and we have plenty of cap so arbitration isn't issue

This would be one of those shrewd moves on young player that thus far we haven't seen Kyle at all pull off

He certainly would be a better bet than whoever suggested signing old ass Giordano

It’s been very very quiet. I haven’t seen a single free agent linked to the Hawks, guess the organization isn’t so leaky after all.

Guess we’ll see tomorrow what comes. Buyout window closes and QOs are due.

Let the kids develop and start creating a little more stability in Chicago. When injuries happen in planned circumstances, give the kids some games up.
