2024-25 Roster…too soon?

The Blackhawks and Sam Lafferty’s agent are expected to meet in Las Vegas on Thursday. There’s obviously familiarity and comfort there for both sides, but it’s not a given they’ll come to a contract agreement.

Lafferty, who turned 29 in March, will likely look for some stability heading into his 30s and a pay increase coming off the two best seasons of his career. His expiring contract was a two-year deal with a $1.15 million cap hit.

On the other side, the Blackhawks like Lafferty enough to bring him back, but they’re also in rebuild mode. Will they offer more than a few years? They should be able to pay him over market value for at least a few seasons. Would that be enough?

Stay tuned.

The Blackhawks likely envision Mikheyev as a third-line winger and Lafferty a fourth-line center or wing. Both would be upgrades from what the Blackhawks had last season.

The Blackhawks’ bottom six would likely include Jason Dickinson, Nick Foligno, Ryan Donato, Mikheyev and Lafferty. Landon Slaggert will likely be in that mix, too. And depending on whom the Blackhawks add over the next week, that could bump other players down the lineup.

If the Blackhawks get a deal done with Lafferty, they would likely be close to finalizing their bottom six. You would think the focus at the start of free agency will be adding top-six players with more offensive upside.

It doesn’t sound like the Blackhawks have closed the door on re-signing Joey Anderson, one of the Blackhawks’ best players based on analytics last season. Anderson would bring more competition to the lineup.

There’s a chance the Blackhawks could give him a qualifying offer before the upcoming deadline, but their preference is likely to complete a deal before then. A qualifying offer could open the door to Anderson opting for arbitration.

XXXXX - Bedard - Kurashev
Hall - XXXXXX/Nazar - Reichel
AA - Donato - Mikheyev
Foligno - Dickenson - Lafferty
Anderson?

Vlasic - Jones
Korchinski - Murphy
Kaiser - XXXXXX
Phillips

Mrazek
Soderblom/XXXXX

@ forward, it seems like we need a two way top 6 LW to play with Bedard and Kurashev, and potentially a top 6 C instead of Nazar, who may start in the AHL.
Teravainen - 2yrs 7milAAV
Lindholm - 2 yrs 9mil AAV

@ D, need a RHD that could maybe slot into the top 4 when Murphy ultimately gets hurt.
Kulikov - 2yrs 2mil AAV

And a back up goalie.
Brossoit - 2yrs 3mil AAV

Teravainen - Bedard - Kurashev
Hall - Lindholm - Reichel
AA - Donato - Mikheyev
Foligno - Dickenson - Lafferty
Anderson?

Vlasic - Jones
Korchinski - Murphy
Kaiser - Kulikov
Phillips

Mrazek
Brossoit

His opinion on who should be in the Hawk lineup is just as important as yours.
Your right.

Its about Troubas reputation. Otherwise nobody would complain about him playing 5th defenceman on your team. Hes more then good enough to do that. Also its a cap dump to move up.

Hall and AA aren’t playing a full season here. I would be shocked if either of them hit 40 games, they’re both broken.

You have to be prepared for that unless you want a repeat of last year.

Kulikov would be great to have around for 2 years but you will have to pay him more $

He had a real good year for Panthers and if he is going to take as little as that he will find way to stay in Florida

The Hawks aren't bringing in any LHD. It doesn't make any sense. You need to see what you have with all the LHD in the system, not block them.

the money doesn’t matter from a hockey perspective. the sticking point was always going to be term, and if there aren’t any guys willing to take three years or less (preferably two) i wouldn’t fault KD at all for running it back with only minor additions. team isn’t gonna be competitive with any signing on the market this year. i’d rather have another complete disaster on the ice this season but a clean cap bill come time to sign bedard than a late bowman style mediocrity with two or three old guys on bad contracts.

Leafs hands are tied at the moment trying to get a couple D , Hopefully Davidson grabs Domi (Domi 4 x 4) or possibly Bertuzzi .

My god with this fascination with bringing back Domi and at 4 years? Especially when we have Nazar, Moore and Greene soon to come thru pipeline at C (Nazar already here)

Seriously move on

There is a reason as well no one is willing to commit longterm to Domi around league. He isn't that good

Domi can play wing. What does the center pipeline have to do with anything?

The reality is, the top 6 forward market in free agency isn't good.

With Domi, we've seen him play in the Blackhawks system already. We know he's a good fit. He won't cost as much as some of the guys available that will command ridiculous contracts.

He adds sandpaper to the lineup, he'll produce with Bedard (should they play together), and he'll scrap anyone that tries to mess with him.

Only player that I would give a 7 year deal to from that remaining player list is Debrusk.
I think he would be a great line mate for Bedard and play the net front on the pp.

Move Reichel + Kurashev at the draft for a high end pick. (packaged with #18 or Jones?)

Sign Stamkos, Domi, and Duclair.

Stamkos-Bedard-Slaggert
Duclair-Nazar-Domi
Hall-Dickinson-Foligno
Mikheyev-Lafferty-AA
Donato

Just sign Teuvo at whatever money for three years. Get another forechecky wing. A RD off the scrap heap. I’d be satisfied with that.

When it’s 9 months from now and we are rolling:
Turbo Bedard Krash
McGroarty Nazar Moore
Mikky Dickson AA

Vlasic Lev
Korch Jones

With Hall and Murphy dealt at deadline for more picks.

While picking between Martone frondell. McQueen
I’m going to be in heaven.

You don't give players like DeBrusk 7 years. He's going to be 28 this fall. He's settled into a nice 2nd line piece. He's going to get bumped out of that spot by younger players and then you're going to be stuck with a third liner with way too much term that you can't trade without adding.

He would be good for the first 5-6 years of the contract.

After that he would still be serviceable. He would be 34 at the end of the deal. That's not super old. It's not like he would be 37.

It's not the age.

It's that players of that level don't deserve that much term.

You give term to key players.

DeBrusk isn't a key player on any roster.
