As @TLEH said in the other thread, Friedman mentioned Seth Jones just as “wondering”

Now I know people are split on Friedman, but usually when he drops names in that regard, it’s usually because he’s heard whispers.

It doesn’t mean it’s going to happen, but I’m thinking someone in the leafs organization is at least mentioning Jones as a possibility.

exactly and Seth Jones recent comments after post season interviews makes it seem likely he would be willing to move to a playoff contender team. Key would be would Marner wave to come to Chicago. I think he would its a big city with marketing ops and playing with Bedard could rejuvenate his career arc.

And the media pressure here is basically non existent. If the media in Chicago can defend Jones, Marner won’t have any issues.

Seth's deal isn't good and Marner is moving towards UFA. Depends on how much retention we can avoid and what we have to add.
I think you can avoid retention by taking back Kampf (2.4x3). 5% expected bump to cap each of the next 2 Summers, the Leafs cap situation cleans up a lot this Summer with more next so I don't see a big need for retention.

Marner, Liljegren, Kampf for Jones, 1 of (Anderson/Entwhistle/Raddysh) & Phillips.

Marner retained at the deadline is a 1st plus (if he either is a poor fit or you don;t want to meet his contract demands)

This is a decent Summer to shop a RHD as a UFA with Montour, Pesce, Demelo, Matt Roy decent option and some stop gaps like Myers, Schultz, Walker, Tanev that could fill the void while we wait for Rinzel and whoever we draft this Summer. If we moved Jones, I would not mind shopping in the deep end of the UFA pool with an eye on moving Murphy (if he happens to be healthy) at the TDL.

Did Freidman mention it on 32 thoughts? Jones to Toronto?

Ok Ill bite. start of a deal

To Toronto- Jones
To Chicago-Power
To Buffalo-Marner

Vlasic-Power
Korchinski-Murphy
Del Mastro-UFA
Kaiser

Plug in Rinzel or Maybe Levshunov for Murphy down the line

If Toronto takes the contract without any retention, Id take just about any collection of useless bits and bobs they could offer.

Like Liligren and a back of pucks plus future considerations.

All due respect we would definitely have to retain here and add significantly like reichel(at his peak value which he is not)+

Why wouldn’t Toronto just trade Marner for Power straight up?

Jones is going to be here for quite some time. Some of y'all are going to have to make your peace with that.

Never underestimate the stupidity of NHL General Managers.

Also, we're talking about dealing with the guy who gave Huberdeau 10.5mil for 8 years. This is not a master of talent evaluation.

It's not even just stupidity. I'm sure plenty of guys go in with the mindset that a trade probably won't work out. But it might. And if it doesn't it'll be the same outcome as me just standing pat. Somebody else will be dealing with the fallout or lack thereof because I won't have a job either way.
