Does anyone else see Jeff Skinner in Tony? I mean at least Tony will try to defend, probably not well but I don't actually question the effort. Still his offensive skills and shot are elite. His straight line speed is well above average and while slight he's not afraid to lurk around the dots, a la, Hull.

As always I want to see sustained dominance at the AHL level but this seems pretty typical for Stranges. Obvious skill that got him drafted in junior. Bursts of outrageous talent, but not consistency. Questions of whether he'll even get an ELC then that fantastic junior year that earned him a contract. Similar pattern in the AHL so far. He also can't really be bumped down on this roster because there just isn't enough talent ahead of him so he gets opportunities that were denied to him the last few seasons with Bourque and Stankoven in front of him.

Sustained production in a pipeline now bereft of offensive talent could get him a look see as an injury call up or at least a real shot at next year's training camp. My faith looks like it's really beginning to be fulfilled.

The fact that he's a LW helps Stranges a bit. Weak organizational depth behind Robertson long term. Father time will catch up to Benn some more and Marchment isn't guaranteed to stick around after next season.

Texas wins in OT

Holy f*** what a goal it was. Between the legs by Cameron Hughes. Gorgeous goal

Believe Kyrou was scratched tonight. Probably just Texas giving some guys a rest since they played yesterday

Didn't see Bichsel at all in the 3rd period or OT. Might've been injured? Edit: Looks like he registered a shot on goal in the 3rd so I guess he did play. Definitely did not see him the last 10 minutes of it though

No points for Stranges tonight

If you want to feel better about the Hemming pick, take a look at the next ~30 picks after him. Not a whole lot of early winners so far. FWIW, the one game I watched Hemming, I was fairly impressed with his overall game. Great skating/hands and he surprisingly (based on reputation) made some nice passes. Barrie has been very low scoring this season, which can be highlighted by a player that scored over 100 points in 60 games being barely over a PPG on the team this season.

The biggest thing in Bichsel's favor is Satan not giving him his blessing.

Good chance he won't end up like Damiani.

I wonder which Euro team Stranges will go to?

Probably Skelleftea, but maybe Geneva-Servette if he is lucky :naughty:

Curious what those who are watching Emil Hemming this season think.

I posted my thoughts before, but the game I watched him he was extremely east-west focused and pass-first, which I found odd given his pre-draft scouting reports.

Barrie is barely scoring this season, so I don't know if it's a coaching issue or a Hemming issue.

I went to the Barrie vs Kingston game tonight. Hemming was fine but nothing spectacular.

Barrie was pretty dominant tonight but Hemming only picked up a secondary assist on a play where he didn't really contribute to the goal. I thought is best play came in the closing seconds of the first period where he created something out of nothing through aggressive forechecking and stealing the puck from a lackadaisical Kingston defender. His best scoring chance came in the third where he was wide open in the slot but took to long to get his shot off and allowed the goalie time to setup and cut the angle; hard wrist shot that went straight into the goalies chest protector. He played on the third line and the top powerplay unit, made a couple of clean zone entries on the man advantage and made some slick passes upon being pressured. Most of his passes went backwards towards the defenseman rather than the slot sadly.

Barrie is a big heavy team that rolls their lines and creates through their defenseman. It's not a system that will ever lead to high scoring numbers for its top forwards but Hemming should still be more productive. He looked more like a decent all around middle round draft pick rather than a 1st round sniper.

Bertucci looked a lot more solid on his skates, seems to have filled out a bit and did a nice job protecting the puck and initiating contact. Played big minutes on Barrie's top pair but defered most of the offense to his incredibly fun partner (Kashawn Aitsheson). Gardiner looked the same as always, clever little one touch passes, quick and shiftly skater but tough to see much NHL upside.

***I know this isn't the 2025 draft thread but I feel the need to gush over Kashawn Aicheson, the dude can deke though an entire team and score a highlight real goal one shift then level a guy with a bone crushing hit and drop the gloves the next. He's the #1 defenseman as a draft eligable on a team that has 3 older 2nd round NHL draft picks already on the blueline. Super fun and talented player.

Heading down to Tragically Hip Way on a Friday nite wowwwww

I've been concerned about Hemming's hockey IQ since the draft, and watching him a handful of times this year has only reinforced that concern.

Crazy factoid of the day.

Stranges had 23 points in 55 AHL games last season.

He has 20 points in 17 so far this season.

I'm not saying he's arrived or a sure fire NHLer, but at this point it's hard not to be excited by his development. Especially when you look at the rest of the forward prospect group. There's not much there right now.
