Bruce recommends getting a viewing in.

Many peeps have slept on this player. Big, mobile shutdown d-man who's taken top matchups for several seasons within a broken, low scoring program. Squeezing a bit of offense in his senior year. Lots of raw putty with this player distorted by a tough role within a terrible program in likely the best conference in college hawkey.

He's graduating at a time when the team suddenly has a lack of depth at LD organizationally. Hopefully we handle him better than the right shots that came through from the NCAA in recent years.

There seems a path to compete for an AHL job. I kind of see him somewhat in the Phil Kemp range of prospect and game. Both had national junior team level pedigree. Ultimately as we've seen with the Oilers development, it's hard to onboard an NHL team in mature window phase.

Slow cook prospect with solid raw tools.

EDIT: Adding some player notes for context of his season and role as a shutdown defender:
  • The Catamounts are ranked fourth in Hockey East, 13th in the NCAA with an 87% penalty kill this season.
  • UVM notched their first shorthanded goal of the season against LIU on Saturday (Dec. 7), seeing Will Zapernick finish a breakaway opportunity pinning his shot five-hole. Joel Määttä and Luca Münzenberger each earned assists on the short-handed goal.
  • Määttä has earned four points in four games on four total assists. Münzenberger is on a point streak of his own, tallying five points in four games on one goal and four assists.
Munzenberger's individual stats: 8 points 13 games +5, second highest on team with a -2 goal share.

The Terriers are playing an exhibition game vs the USNTDP U18 team. A bunch of draft eligible Terrier commits in the game (Fondrk, Murtagh, Trethewey). Matt Copponi had a goal and an assist. Lined up on RW with Shane Lachance, who assisted on Copponi's goal.

Joel Maata had a goal and an assist & Luca Muzenberger scored a goal. Couldn't mind video of Muzenberger's. Luca's up to 14GP 4G-5A-9pts.

WIlliam Nicholl scored his 12th.

First line center Sam O'Reilly collected two assists, an unremarkable secondary (not shown) and this primary on the PP.

The best part about O'Reilly and Nicholl is that both play a 200 foot game. Even if they aren't top 6 guys at the NHL level down the line they could be solid 3rd line options if they continue to improve and pan out.

Bruce Curlock has been keeping tabs on Munzenberger and has been pretty complimentary of his play.

There is skill there that might surprise people who have written him off.

Munzenberger was written off by most of the fanbase since he was drafted (at least it seemed). But he seemed fairly toolsy and a longterm prospect, wouldn't be shocked if he turned into a player (even if as a bottom pairing shut down guy with a bit of offense)
