He's graduating at a time when the team suddenly has a lack of depth at LD organizationally. Hopefully we handle him better than the right shots that came through from the NCAA in recent years.
There seems a path to compete for an AHL job. I kind of see him somewhat in the Phil Kemp range of prospect and game. Both had national junior team level pedigree. Ultimately as we've seen with the Oilers development, it's hard to onboard an NHL team in mature window phase.
Slow cook prospect with solid raw tools.
EDIT: Adding some player notes for context of his season and role as a shutdown defender:
- The Catamounts are ranked fourth in Hockey East, 13th in the NCAA with an 87% penalty kill this season.
- UVM notched their first shorthanded goal of the season against LIU on Saturday (Dec. 7), seeing Will Zapernick finish a breakaway opportunity pinning his shot five-hole. Joel Määttä and Luca Münzenberger each earned assists on the short-handed goal.
- Määttä has earned four points in four games on four total assists. Münzenberger is on a point streak of his own, tallying five points in four games on one goal and four assists.
Munzenberger's individual stats: 8 points 13 games +5, second highest on team with a -2 goal share.
