They have already spent at least $4.1M so far. Which might be a strong indicator they aren’t confident they are signing Sasaki. SD spent at least $2.9M so far.

-$2.5M on FG’s #8 prospect, Crisopher Planco
-$1M on FG’s #28 prospect, Juan Sanchez
-$600k on Kennew Blanco, their #1 target last year but they didn’t sign him in 2024 due to issues with his birth date.

I don't believe any of them have actually signed yet, though. They just have unofficial agreements.

I think they usually report it as IFA slot money when these trades happen, don't they?

They do. I'm slightly curious as if they're required to though. If the Jays wanted to quietly accrue IFA money while stuff happens in the background reporting it as cash considerations would be smart if they were allowed to do so, even if it's not the usual routine for those trades.

The guy was recently DFA'd though, it's probably just money.

You would think so, but remember when they got slot money for Morales and Smith? Weird shit happens!

Ohhh nooo the Dodgers are trying make a trade for international bonus money. RIP MLB its over guys.

So either he wants money or Dodgers feel threatened to resort to this. Regardless, I don’t care. I’m battle tested and I’m ready to get hurt again!

Sportsnet had a story out suggesting the Mets had contacted the Jays about Vlady.I have a strong feeling he might be gone. Where there is smoke there is fire. I would have thought the Jays would have had him signed by now.

Didn't this same rumour come out last year. Maybe they came back around but didn't like the price tag the jays put on his services so they circled back to Alonso

Could you imagine Rogers letting Bo,Vlad,Mitch and JT walk in the same year and get nothing in return

If other teams GMs aren't call then they aren't doing their jobs.

3 finalists to sign Sasaki, but it's looking like a 2-team race for star pitcher

The Roki Sasaki sweepstakes are rounding third base.

The Japanese phenom has reportedly narrowed down his list of teams to three -- the Dodgers, Padres and Blue Jays, according to an ESPN report -- and will be making his decision in the coming days, adding a talented arm to one lucky rotation.

“Just about everyone has assumed he would sign with the Dodgers or Padres from the minute he was posted,” a National League executive said. “You can’t count out the Blue Jays, because they always seem to be in the mix, but it would be a surprise if he didn’t wind up with one of those SoCal teams.”

According to sources, both the Dodgers and Padres have been calling teams about trading for international bonus pool money with the hopes of bulking up the amount they can offer Sasaki.

It was fun while it lasted.

That's a dumb headline. For one thing, there's no actual information. The argument they're making us basically "We never expected the Jays to have a chance, so it's probably not them." And for all the writer knows, SD and LA are calling teams about IFA slot money because they're desperate.

I don't think the Jays sign him, but that seems a bit troll-y.

Shi Davidi said on the radio this morning that Sasaki was in Toronto for multiple days last week and threw on the field. He was also reportedly in Dunedin and visited the Jays facilities.

The Dunedin thing is new, right? I don't think we had heard that before now.

For all we know, the Dodgers and Padres could both be scrambling to trade for more international bonus money because they think he's picking the Jays if they don't get offer him more IFA money.
Keep in mind that both Toronto and LAD have prospects tapped for the money in their pool if they don't get Sasaki.

The Padres do, too.

The thing that really makes me believe it's the Dodgers (other than the fact that the Dodgers just seem to get whatever they want) is that a couple of the guys expected to go to the Dodgers have already signed elsewhere.

Having said that, both the guys they lost got significantly more than what they had agreed to with the Dodgers, so maybe they just saw the Dodgers' uncertainty as a means of backing out of their handshake agreements to get more money elsewhere.

I am fully expecting San Diego. I honestly think LAD is third in this one.

The sheer difference in money should put them third.

It is or rather i havent seen it reported yet. i went back and listened and it was the host Shoaib Alli who said Sasaki was in Toronto for multiple days and went to Dunedin. Davidi responded with "yeah" then went on a tangent.

So i correct myself, Davidi didnt report it but he didnt refute it when it was brought up. Though i dont think it is far fetched since Ohtani visited Dunedin. Also, most of the Jays off-season physicals are performed in Dunedin. Not to mention that Scott Phillips reported a few days ago that the 2 reasons Sasaki is interested in the Jays is; Pete Walker and the Dunedin facilities. So if the facilities are a big reason, i suspect he would have had to have taken a tour.
