I am fully expecting San Diego. I honestly think LAD is third in this one.

The sheer difference in money should put them third.

I really don't think the international pool money matters all that much to Sasaki... if he wanted to play for money he could waited some years, dominated in Japan and came over like Yamamoto and got 300 guaranteed before stepping onto a mound in North America. He will go where he wants, knowing that first contract is just pushing his retirement cheque down the road. If anything, LA has the upper hand. No doubt in Sasakis mind they will open up the bank vault before he hits free agency.

That being said, if reports are true that he wants to forge his own path and not play in the shadows of others and maybe attract less media attention? San Diego and Toronto make more sense. San Diego may get the upper hand from the fact he isn't playing for all of Canada. Going to be interesting to see where he ends up... still really hope it's the Jays. That would give the franchise and fan base a much needed positive outlook on the coming and future seasons.

With rumors now saying the Jays are in heavily with Alonso, I wonder if the Jays have a deal to trade Guerrero if he can't be signed and will lock up Alonso to replace Guerrero.
So, Guerrero and comp pick for Alonso and…
That’s how it’ll break down, plus factor on relative values of the contracts.
I’m more intirigued by a Guerrero trade than a signing, myself.

It would have to include Caissie in the offer (both from the value POV and that Caissie is likely excess for CHC from a depth POV).
They also have the young 1B who looks to have some pop, and SasakiV.OF. Strong catcher at AA.
Good makings there too.

I'm still firmly in the re-sign Guerrero AND sign Alonso camp.

Vlad can play decent 3rd and it dramatically improves the production from the infield.
Even if people question Vladdy’s ability to play 3rd. I think you can get away with him only playing 40ish games there.
Alonso is the DH when Vladdy plays 1st and add to that rest days for both guys and there would be plenty of opportunities for other guys to DH when they need a rest from playing the field.

In terms of Bichette...

The worst case scenario isn't him struggling (or trading him). The worst case scenario is that Bo plays the same as he has for most of his career, which propels the Jays into the playoffs because at that point, he likely walks for a comp pick (hard to trade a star SS when you are in a playoff spot).

I can kind of understand if you think the worst scenario is that Bo helps the Jays get into the playoff hunt, they miss the postseason, and then lose him for a comp pick anyway.

But making the playoffs because Bo played great? Naw. I've seen more than enough non-playoff years in my life to consider that remotely close to a "worst case scenario."

Yeah I’d say he was close to worst case scenario.
Worst is Bo plays well and they are in playoff contention so they don’t trade him but they ultimately miss by a win or 2 and he walks for just a comp pick lol

Obviously we need to sign Vlad, but it would probably be good if we could pick up Alonso too to get some hitting back into the lineup.
