I'm sure Blue Jays excutive is talking about the team in the 3rd person and randomly leaking their intent for no reason whatsoever. This obviously came from elsewhere
The Boras camp leaking this so the Yankees pay up.
Jays want Soto but Soto doesn’t want the Jays.
More. Than. Just. Batting. Average..214 is not average in any league. Sorry, it never has been and never will be average.
Absolutelyf*** me, I can't believe people are still posting stuff like this in 2024.
Varsho is a starter for basically every team in baseball. It isn't even debatable. He's a league-average hitter and the best fielder in the game at a premium position.

He is an average hitter but on the last page, two places away from the bottom of the league of qualified hitters on mlb.com for batting average... your definition of average and the dictionary's definition are clearly different. .214 BA is not "average". https://www.mlb.com/stats/batting-average?page=6
Using batting average to determine who is an effective MLB hitter is like using goal totals to determine who is an effective NHL defenseman.
His OPS+ was 99. He's a league average hitter.
He had a 98 OPS+ last year. The year before he had a 84 OPS+
100 is average.
The Jays first offseason priority might be to acquire some dignity before anything else.

Just don't understand why its taken so long for these clowns to sign Vladdy and perhaps Bo.
Were not getting Soto.
Its gonna be another lousy season season with a lousy farm club.
Excuse my negative attitude today. I'm in a "Shane" pissed off mood.
Terrible analogy on two fronts the Norris tends to go to the Defenceman who generates the most offence and OPS+ not a pure hitting metric.
OPS+ is not a good measurement to gauge the quality of a hitter as OPS+ is an offensive metric not a hitting metric per se. He is not a league average hitter, he is league average with a offence metric.
If you feel .214 is an average BA, would you take a lineup 1 through 9 who hit at a pace .214?
He's a league average batter, if you want to argue semantics.
Using batting average to evaluate hitters is nearly useless. There are better statistics. Use those.
Jesus Christ, no one is saying he has an average batting average. He has a poor batting average and makes up for it by doing other things well, making him an average hitter.Terrible analogy on two fronts the Norris tends to go to the Defenceman who generates the most offence and OPS+ not a pure hitting metric.

You and many other Jays fans.
Not that i fully disagree with you but let's put aside the debate about whatever Varsho is an average hitter or not the question to your question will be no either way. A lineup made of 9 average hitters wont go far you need at least around 3 hitters who are significantly better than the average and ideally 1 or 2 you can be good contact hitter who get on base and can steal bases. If you feel .214 is an average BA, would you take a lineup 1 through 9 who hit at a .214 pace?
It's more subjective than objective if you ask me. The current lineup will miss again. We are extremely excited about the possibilities of success our team can achieve objectively and subjectively - Ross Atkins
