Blue Jays Discussion: 2024-25 Off-season: The free agent watch begins (and sometimes old baseball radio broadcasts)

Judging by Vlad and Bo's actions rather than words, I think they are going to wait until free agency before signing new contracts. I could be wrong and they are just using the last year to gain leverage. However, if you cannot extend them to reasonable contracts, trade them and start a rebuild. Its always better to sell when so many other teams are looking to buy.

Why is that?
I should add with term it'll age poorly. If he regresses from his power at all he's a sub par lf'er for us. Signing a guy coming off of a career year for power is never ideal when that's the part of his game you're interested in. He is not great at anything but power so it can get ugly fast.

Good for Romano. Sadly for him he'll only be the second most psychotic entity in the city with the existence of Gritty.

I figure when Vladdy signs with a different team next year, the front office might finally get fired.

That's it. That's the only positive I can think of right now.
This is their last hoorah. Unfortunately, it'll be too late to recover from with for the next management group. This is our worst case scenario

Well, Atkins claims they have no medical concerns with him.
I remember seeing that but that could be doing Romano a solid. You don't want to crater a good vet going into free agency. It's also why he only got a 1 year deal with a low salary. A closer of his ilk should easily get term and dollars but didn't.

No. I've been around here for a long time but only come in once in a while. I can't handle the negativity. Everything is just negative but I understand your point. Probably just caught me in a bad moment. Thanks for the heads up about the poster.
No Woodman like myself have lost faith in our front office. I was way more vocally negative about this front office the past couple of seasons but could kind of see the direction. There is no direction to be had anymore. Poor drafting, bad trades have caught up to us.

For Bo it makes sense. While he's been remarkably consistent, sports are very much a "what have you done for me lately?" world and he's coming off the worst season of his career by a mile. He's not going to think about negotiation at this time.

Even Vlad has a decent case for waiting with how up and down his last couple seasons have been.

True. Teams will begin to settle in this week! They best be asking around on these players.

So now the insiders are pushing the Burnes to Jays after pushing Soto to Jays lol, they'll just push anything for clicks knowing how desperate Jays fans are crazy.

It was a career year for HR, but it was only slightly better than his two previous years overall (129 wRC+ last year compared to 119 and 122 the two previous years).

He's also a surprisingly contact-oriented hitter, making contact at a well above-average rate. So I feel like there's a bit more leeway there than with a guy like Teoscar, where if his contact ability slips he could be in big trouble in a hurry.

I don't know... I just see Santander aging fairly well compared to the average pure slugger.

It's also possible the Jays are interested in Burnes.

They're literally interested in every free agent it seems the last 2 seasons.

Not sure if you use the score app, but that's the joke the last 2 seasons, because every article regarding free agents says Jays interested

Yeah, that's how things work when a team has some money to spend and there are multiple different ways they can address their deficiencies. It's always been that way.

Shocking Jays never land any, shocking I know
Ryu, Springer, Gausman, Bassitt. They didn't land any last year.

Signing what Turner, Vogelbach, KK, Jays so interested haha

Don't want to forget Joey Votto

They gave Votto a minor league deal and it didn't work out. Who cares?

Lots of people wanted to see him in a Jays uniform and get at least one game at the dome rather than thinking he was an actual answer to their issues especially with him coming off a rough 2023.
