Geez, can you give a 5-year contract for a AHL'er...lolll. Wotherspoon is a perfect AHL vet.

Rare guy who likes being in the AHL. Already #54 D for GP. Should finish #30-40 for defencemen.

I'd be willing to always give out a one way 775,000$ deal to a few key AHL vets like that, it's invaluable if you want a winning environment in your farm team. You can keep ABB and Wotherspoon around for a long time if you make it worth their while. It's money well spent in the long run IMO.

I have been saying this for a long time. If you find the right ones, sign them to AHL deals at a NHL salary, saves you the roster spots, avoids losing them on waivers, and guarantees continuity and leadership for the young players in the organization. As more and more of the draft picks take the role of the NHL callups, the organization should need less and less of the veterans being on NHL contracts to fill that need. Not all, but some of these players might be interested in stability in their lives and for their families, while making a decent living and making home in a major city as opposed to some small market AHL one for multiple seasons. Money should not be an issue for the organization.

We'll see if they call up guys. Depending on how long Arseneau, Dauphin and Mesar are out. Gignac was sick so he should be there for Wednesday.

ABB - Gignac - Roy
Farrell - Beck - Simoneau
Davidson - Xhekaj - Tuch
Kidney - Beaucage

I assume Perreault would be the one called up. Or throw a bone to Mianscum or Novak.

A lot of them bounce around thinking they’ll get a better shot at making the nhl elsewhere, which i understand, but seriously, most don’t. They might get a cup of coffee.

Case in point: Belzile. I mean, seriously, he really thought he had a chance to crack the line-up elsewhere??? He did it here only because of a completely depleted team.

LOL. Correct that you cannot lose players on AHL contracts to waivers. Instead, they are open to poaching AT ANY TIME!

It rarely happens because other clubs don't want these players on their NHL roster either, and not because they are 'cleverly protected'.

That wasn't my intent that you are stashing players, that should be obvious since players worth stashing would never sign an AHL only contract. My point was more about knowing to start the season who your players are that fall under the AHL veteran quota without having to wait for them to clear waivers. If some team wants to offer them an NHL contract during the season so be it. I doubt that if they have a guaranteed contract at NHL salary, they will give that up for most likely a 2 way contract for less money.
