I understand this tournament is typically for the older players, but I can't understand why Greentree and a couple of the other top draft picks didn't even make the preliminary roster for Canada
Agreed, especially when multiple players the same age or younger (Luchanko, Beaudoin, McKenna, Martone) are all on the roster up front.

I'm sure he'll get his chance next year, or maybe even one of the first call-ups if someone has to bow out for emergency reasons, but we'll see. Definitely looks like there's more of a gritty identity they're going for, as the leading OHL scorer, Misa, is also off the roster.

I wonder who has the inside track for goalie #1 on Team Canada and Team USA. How cool would it be to have George & Hammer as the starting goalies for each.

A quick glance at the rosters...

For team USA the spot is likely Trey Augustine's to lose and Sam Hillebrandt has the inside track to the backup spot. Both are returning from last year's team.

As for Canada, George has a better shot at the #1 as he was the guy for Canada at the under 18s last year. But there are 2 other 19 year olds invited in Scott Ratzlaff and Carson Bjarnson so hard to say what Canada will do. Give the spot to George or one of the older guys.

Edit: forgot Ratzlaff was on Canada's WJC team last year, so he's likely the guy to beat.

Hillebrandt is nothing special, Slukynsky should be the backup with the potential to compete with Augustine if he looks like he has at Western Michigan. Slukynsky is one of the most underrated prospects in the whole league right now.
