Even if this was the smart move in terms of projected future production vs cap hit math and asset management, the reality is the Stars are trying to win now. Downgrading the roster now for lottery tickets you might see pay off four years from now isn't something Gaglardi or Nill will go for.

True. At the same time, he needs to produce at more than a .58 ppg for us to win now.

IF Robo is traded, it'll be before his next contract negotiation.
What I mean is...keep it on the radar.

Hintz is a bigger problem than Robertson is today.
Guy missed camp from surgery he's going to be a little behind.

I think we're learning Pavelski was a much bigger contributor to their production than was previously realized. The Pavelski from two seasons ago was so great, and the top line was so great as a result. The struggle now is with how the top line has both unimpressive numbers but also just doesn't look as dangerous.

Tracking this with numbers is tough, but looking at Hintz and Robertson, their high danger scoring chances at 5v5 were both at 15.8 per 60 minutes two seasons ago (both the best on the Stars) while this season the numbers have dropped to 12.1 and 12.9 respectively. Comparing them to the rest of the team now using the same metric, they are 11th and 9th among forwards. Ugh.

I'm sure they're still figuring out chemistry playing without Pavelski, but these are also supposed to be the team's two best forwards. But if this continues and Stars brass starts to doubt Robertson's ability to be an offensive driver without Pavelski, the contract talks could hit a very serious impass.

Is it Pavelski or just Hintz's natural decline? His game was never one that was going to age well. I remember being skeptical of the long term deal he signed at the time due to his injury history.

also, as much as i love his game, i've always been on team sell early on roope, if you sell on anyone. but to @Troy McClure's point, you don't want to try to win now with magic beans

Well Stank is a straight upgrade on Pavs so I don't think it's that, although the lines have been unsettled. It doesn't help that the PP sucks and they're not picking up points there.

Yep, iirc he had the same number of shifts as Robertson, but ~3:00 min less TOI because he bails for a line change early and often

I was just looking at the Stars stats and I was super surprised. Duchene and Seguin are the 2 best point producers. Are they also the best players on the ice? Particularly Duchene, how is he producing at the highest pace of his career at 33 years old?

Marchment-Duchene-Seguin has been a productive line for 2 seasons now.

Duchene and Seguin had instant chemistry as soon as Duchene arrived.

Duchene is also one of our few players who has any idea what he's doing on the PP.
