Ehhh... a struggling OFD for Mac doesn't sound like great asset mgmt. But it does seem odd to send your young OFD down to the AHL and state he's lost confidence, but are willing to entertain a trade. They're trading low?
Would def need more coming back for anaheim to even entertain that idea.

If we were interested in Jiricek... that would mean we had him pretty high on our own draft board that year.

Would prob take McTavish, but idk what they could add to Jiricek to make me willing to trade mctavish.

If they entertained a one-on-one swap of Fowler and Jiricek, sure, go for it. Other than that, I'll pass.

Not that this seems to be even remotely reasonable or realistic in any way.

Jiricek doesn't have NHL level skating/mobility right now. The risk is that he never gets it. If he does, he projects to be a poor mans Evan Bouchard. But how much does a team pay for that possibility when the downside risk is a career AHLer?

i dont see the point in adding another young offensive D to our already crowded young offensive D core.
Also, our team has historically not been good at drafting forwards outside of the top 10. We have been good at grabbing and developing D there. Trading Mac for a D would be creating a hole we most likely would not be able to fill for a long time. We should only be trading D and vets at this time, in my opinion. I don't want to be trying to replace Mac with our next Sam Steel.

Sam Steel. Ew.

I agree on your point that it's way too early to even think about surrendering McT. He's 21 years old and has 96 points in 166 career games on a shit team.

I'm not sure the Ducks can afford to trade Gibson this season without a goalie coming back. The depth just isn't there. Carolina seems in need of a goalie and Gibson at 50% is almost identical salary to Freddie Anderson who is injured and has one year left in his contract. How funny would a swap for them be?

They lost Freddie and now it appears Kochetkov could miss time, he got absolutely decked last night.

Unless they are getting a 1st for Gibson or a Top 6 player in return , no thanks.

Supporting Dostal is more important than like a 3rd or 4th round pick. The ducks don’t need the cap.

From the Athletic, Quarter of the Season remarks:

.915 team save percentage: On average as of Thursday, the Ducks allow the most shots on goal (34.1) in the league. Their special teams are not good, particularly a penalty kill that ranks 31st. They don’t score enough to cover for breakdowns or mistakes. One reason they still struggle to drive possession is their 42.3 percent win rate in the faceoff circle puts them at league bottom. But they’re 8-8-2 with just 54 goals allowed because of terrific goaltending. Anaheim’s .915 save percentage ranked eighth in the NHL. Lukas Dostal is among the league leaders with a .924. Dostal has also made 14 more saves than expected for the shots he faces. John Gibson has returned from missing several weeks for recovery from appendicitis and has won his first three starts while posting a solid .906. If the Ducks build on their better play as of late, they could make a move up the standings due to some strong netminding. — Eric Stephens

Anaheim has earned most of its points on the back of their netminders. Reimer was good for a game and then blown out, which left Dostal overworked and overcook in three games until Gibby returned. Verbeek and Cronin are removed from more ire by having both Dostal and Gibby. Although the team is caved in on most nights, the team can still play with more confidence knowing Dostal or Gibby is there to bail them out most of the time. I wouldn't trade Gibby this season as he helps to shelter the whole team, not just Dostal. We don't have anyone worthwhile after Dostal and Gibby in our system.

With Gibby back, Dostal is receiving a well deserved respite from playing five games in a row - which Dostal has already done twice in the first 13 games played.

The lack of offense is the team's significant problem. When the team scores 2 goal or fewer, surprisingly, our goalies were still able to produce 4 points!

Our netminders just need 3 goals to secure a point. This proves just how shutdown our goalies are when given 3 goals or more. Although Gibby's numbers aren't sky high like Dostal, he knows how to shutdown opposing teams to help earn points. Gibby kept us close when Detroit grabbed a 3-1 lead in the 2nd period and then the offense woke up to help us win 6-4. Gibby's record since his return are 3-0-1 (7 points).

There are many teams out there needing a better starting goalie, but many on here want to get rid of a good starting goalie in Gibby in our great tandem. In goal is the best thing about the Ducks' this season and we want to dismantle that. Why cut off both arms unnecessarily?

What would you guys give up for Rasmus Andersson?

Position/play-style, he is exactly what we need and the Flames probably want to rebuild so we might have assets that would interest them.

Only issue is that it’s probably going to be a very high price and probably not one that a non-contending team would want to make.

As far as another goalie goes.... Dostal is currently at 13 starts and his career high was 53 appearances in 2022-23 (split between NHL/AHL). Assuming good health, I have no issue giving him around 35-40+ of our remaining 63 starts. But that still means you need more of a 1B and not just tossing some random backup behind Dostal.

I think the time to trade Gibson has passed. We’re better off just keeping him now.

The reason I think he does end up getting traded before his current deal is up is to do right by him and deal him to a contender.

I want to see this team at least in games. If we are getting solid goaltending it gives them a shot but they need to score more goals.

The D being more active is going to be the key to more goals like we saw in the last 5 games.

They are at a spot now where they can take a step forward and say hey this team is not too bad or they can go backwards and fall into the abyss of the lottery discussions…..F that.
