2024-25 FPHL Season Thread

HC Venom played surprisingly well in Watertown, building a 5-2 lead in the 3rd period before the Wolves trimmed the score to 5-4. HCV held on, and now will have a week to find a practice facility to get ready for their next rescheduled game.

More Fed Trivia from Friday night play ... The Continental Division's 1st place Baton Rouge head coach Everett Thompson received a bench minor & game misconduct penalties in the 3rd period game vs. Monroe. So the Zydeco equipment manager Keith LaCour had to take over coaching duties for just under half of the final regulation period & the OT session & the shootout. Final Score in this episode of the "Battle of Louisiana" = Moccasins 4 - Zydeco 3 (SO)

Rock Lobsters fans get their first chance to toss their teddies (the stuffed kind) when ARL takes a 1-0 home lead over the Columbus River Dragons about 12 minutes into the 1st period. 🧸🧸🧸🧸

Either: (a) Columbus & Athens share the Blind Monkeys Gameday Video Productions team, or: (b) the Georgia primary & secondary educational systems need a significant cash infusion to restore their statewide AV Club Initiative.

River Dragons overcome a one-goal deficit for the 3rd time tonight in Athens, tying the Rock Lobsters 3-3 with less than a minute left in regulation. RD & RL going to OT for the 3rd time in their season series.

Athens & Poughkeepsie are trying to catch up with the rest of the teams in Games Played, but I'd only hold my breath for the Rock Lobsters to make it there by season's end. Meanwhile, the Sea Wolves & HC Danville really suck, eh?

I am so excited for these games. It has been so depressing since we lost the Topeka Pilots (formerly Topeka Roadrunners). I love that two of the teams are going to play as the Topeka Scarecrows (Central Hockey League Junior A hockey team that folded in 2001) and the Topeka Roadrunners (NAHL Tier II juniors).
I am even more excited they also announced that the FPHL signed a contract to have a team in Topeka for the next 3 years.

Question for a local hockey fan: Is the current Stormont Vail Events Center facility a significant improvement for hosting hockey vs. the previous Landon Arena configuration/infrastructure? Mrs. JMC 'n' me attended a Roadrunners game there many years ago, and it was a mighty depressing arena for hockey. But the location is a reasonable drive for a weekend pair, so I'd consider returning if the reimagined venue is worth a visit.

Stormont Vail Event Center is the Landon Arena. It went through a significant remodel inside and out just before the COVID-19 shutdown. My family and I moved here from Las Vegas in 2016 (before and after the remodel) and it is a totally different arena now. Absolutely beautiful now, but I am very concerned that the locals will not support anything other than Kansas University, Kansas State University, Washburn University, KC Chiefs and KC Royals. I will for sure buy 5 season tickets for my wife and 3 boys as soon as they are available.
