Their barn is too crappy for professional hockey. It's okay for rec league stuff but you can't have a team operate out of a 1K seater, no matter how many times we have seen FPHL teams try.
I’ve been there. You can’t sit 1000 people. It’s a small community rink. The turnout for the opening weekend was so pathetic we thought we were on some kind of hockey prank show.

I’m not sure who put that business plan together. Doomed to fail unless they have deep pockets and plan to move elsewhere next season.
This place makes the Blue Ridge arena look like the Bell Centre.

Looking ahead (to Friday the 13th) for ARL :crossfing ...

On behalf of everyone from Akins Ford Arena and the Athens Rock Lobsters Organization, we want to take a moment to thank you for your unwavering support as we navigate the challenges that led to the postponement of our home opening weekend.

This week, Athens-Clarke County will be conducting inspections of Akins Ford Arena. Due to the timing of these inspections, we have made the proactive decision to reschedule the Athens Rock Lobsters game against Monroe on Thursday, December 12th. However, we are thrilled to share that once the necessary certifications are received, we plan to celebrate our official opening weekend in this extraordinary new venue with the Rock Lobsters home opener on Friday, December 13th.

For our fans holding tickets to the December 6th game, your original purchase will be valid for the new home opener on December 13th. Your tickets will automatically be transferred to this new date; no further action is required. If you are unable to make the rescheduled date, you may request a refund by emailing [email protected] before Thursday, December 12, at 11:59 p.m.

Ticket holders should retain all tickets to the December 7th and 12th games; original purchases will be valid for rescheduled dates. We are actively looking for dates to reschedule these games and will announce those dates as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Together, we will celebrate our passion for hockey and create a home-ice experience in Athens like no other. We cannot wait to see you all on December 13th (pending approval from Athens-Clarke County) for what promises to be an unforgettable home opener, celebrated as Classic City Night.

Let us make this season one to remember—both on and off the ice!

With gratitude,

Akins Ford Arena and the Athens Rock Lobsters

Should I be skeptical that no names of the ownership group were released? Must be Don and the other league owners stepping in?

Imagine being so ass that you're below a traveling team. That's Danville.
I still think there are signs of commitment within Dashers HC, incl. them sticking with their first head coach when equally struggling competitors are wearing out revolving doors. Check back in February to see how wrong I was.

Watching the FPHL Live feed from Columbus hosting Monroe tonight. I might have stumbled on the worst camera control of any hockey game I've ever seen. It's like the River Dragons hired a trio of blind monkeys for their video staff. :m-cool::m-cool::m-cool:

ETA: BTW, the Moccasins have an active player who may have the coolest name in current North American hockey ... Trygve Many Guns. :thumbu:

Watching HC Dashers @ Binghamton on FPHL Live. After 2 periods played, the visitors' performance is consistent with their current 15-game winless streak. :( I think I'll switch to HC Venom @ Watertown, to see how the former Hudson Valley team is reacting to being a traveling team. 🚌
