Sure somehow Michkov has the most sheltered offensive zone starts on his team while Celebrini is middle of the pack on his team.

And I say this as someone who would, if the season ended today, have Michkov as #1 on my Calder ballot if I had one but man the lengths you go to to defend and promote Michkov can be embarrassing at times.

I'd have Hutson second and Celebrini (mainly to missed time) 3rd at this point just off the top of my head which I believe is how most of the voters do this anyways.

If Michkov becomes Kucherov 2.0 and Celebrini becomes Barkov 2.0 it's still Kuch 2.0 all the time...

It is defniteily a 1a and 1b and 1c situation right now. Little point in trying to debate too much between Michkov and Celebrini and Dustin Wolf right now. Maybe 1-2d with Hutson too, not that crazy a take.

Yes...it is a close rookie race, with rookies racing out for our watching!

Could it be because Celebrini missed 12 games? And you can't really talk about someone that isn't playing. Michkov and the rest of the rookies have a 12 game advantage and can't even take advantage of those games and give them a good lead.
Hey! Wolf does not have a GP advantage ;)

Since 2020-21 season Barkov has scored 331 points in 277 games. So you say Celebrini will have much better stats than 1.2 point/game? I very doubt it.
That's Barkov's absolute peak, a 98 point pace. Yes Celebrini will eclipse that fairly easily at his peak.

I mean you're comparing Michkov to 144 point Kucherov, which is much more outlandish.

Even if he's going to be a better point producer than Barkov, there is no any objective facts that say that Celebrini will be a perennial Selke contender. So a little bit better scorer, a little bit worse defender, it's still more or less Barkov's level.

Again, given what was going on in the world outside of the literally unimportant game of hockey, it is not surprising AT ALL that he fell.
Not surprising he fell. A bit surprising he fell to 7. Different sport, but Jalen Carter effectively killed someone drunk driving after the national championship and the birds still took him 9th. I would think Manslaughter is scarier than Michkov's situation

The picture for your profile leads me to believe you are Sharks fan, which happens to be the team I think had the abosolute least to lose by taking Michkov. Just imagine a powerplay of :

Michkov - Celebrini - Eklund
(Hagens/Martone/Misa) - Dickinson

I'm sure Smith will be good, he does have solid potential to be star one day. That said, it is tough to imagine the above lineup and not think, "damnnnnn"

Celebrini and Michkov face basically the exact same quality of competition according to the analytics.

You're confusing sheltered for being the most skilled and best playmaker on the team. Of course he's getting Ozone draws.

Again, given what was going on in the world outside of the literally unimportant game of hockey, it is not surprising AT ALL that he fell.
Again, I still have no idea how geopolitics has anything to do with a hockey player playing in the NHL, outside of xenophobia.

And, that has played out as I expected. A fat nothingburger from the start.

Do not underestimate the impact of Hutson finally playing PP1, on the point/right side with both Caufield and Laine on the left side.

He his already 1st in completed pass to slot amongst NHL D-men WITHOUT PP1. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes PPG or very close to it until the end of season.

Michkov/Celebrini are amazing players but they have no shot at the Calder if Hutson has around 70 points.

All these posts that say other players have NO SHOT are making me laugh.

It's a tough decision right now and if the players involved keep up their play it will be a tough decision at the end of the year.
No, what was a tough decision was Faber vs Bedard. That ended up being a slam dunk for Bedard, somehow, and yet Michkov is performing better than Bedard did last year and it's somehow a tough decision?

Nah

Last season, only 5 defensemen produced at a PPG pace - Makar, Hughes, Josi, Fox and Bouchard. Pretty lofty projection there

Nah

Only issue with that is Celebrini is also performing better than Bedard did last year.
