Levie just played on Thursday and Friday night right?
I posted that because in the Roster notes i posted it said "The Senators injured players include goaltenders Malcolm Subban and Mads Sogaard,"
It also said "No changes for Belleville roster-wise this afternoon, with no transactions reported and nobody added or removed from the injured list.

The worst was the years of pathetic play and DJ smith and his staff trying to teach these guys defence. Who cares about mark stone

Stone is exactly what is missing on this team. A Selke level 2-way PPG forward with tons of leadership and dedication.

That said, the WORST was not any move in particular or even having DJ and his inability to instill team defense, but it was to be stuck with Pierre Dorion for 7 years.

We aren't far from being a good team, imagine how good we could be if we had just an average GM all that time. It's infuriating

If this roster had three top 10 picks knocking on the door instead of having had pissed them away 2021-2023, we’d be contenders shortly.

Hmm, being optimistic, and taking SOME account of team preferences,, let's say we drafted
Coronato in 2021
Kasper in 2022
Bonk in 2023

Tkachuk-Stutzle-Coronato
Kasper-Norris-Batherson
Greig-Pinto-Giroux

Sanderson-Zub
Chabot-Bonk

Tho one problem here is that we would not have traded the 2022 pick for Debrincat, so no extra 2024 1st that we traded for Ullmark. So in this alternate timelines we either traded something else for Ullmark or go after another goalie.

Also no Jensen since the Chychrun trade doesn't happen either.

Or simply don't give away the 24 y/o Gustavsson while our team was rebuilding?

As for Jensen, why not keep DeMelo back then? However no Merilainen IIRC.

Anyway, Sens life would have been better without Dorion

Could have traded for Marino.

Swap Peterka for Järventie from 2020.

Peterka-Stützle-Coronato
Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson
Greig/Kasper-Pinto-Giroux

Sanderson-Zub
Chabot-Top 4 RHD that could be fetched using Greig or Kasper and some other pieces.
Kleven-Bonk

Gustavsson
Forsberg

Even just trading for Monahan instead of Debrincat in 2022 would have done so much good for the franchise. Monahan is a Canadian boy who is a well loved team mate and a centre. Norris going down and having Monahan would have softened the blow mightily. Not only that but we would have gotten 2 1sts for Monahan, one to take on the contract, and the second in a deadline deal last season. Would've kept the 2022 first and 2nd as well. Could have gotten Kasper and Seamus Casey or Elias Salomonsson.

Drafting Jarventie over Peterka was a pretty huge mistake.
I think there was a number of us that felt that way at the time and it is certainly compounded since the 2020 draft.
Seemed like a no-brainer after the chemistry shown between Stutzle & Peterka in the 2020 World Junior Tournament for Germany.

Peterka is the 7th highest scoring forward of all the forwards drafted in 2020, behind only Lafreniere, Stutzle, Raymond, Lundell, Jarvis & Mercer.
In a redraft, Peterka probably gets drafted top-15 maybe even top-10, so lots of teams missed on him as well but you have to think that Sens scouts would have seen a lot of him leading up to the draft.

He's trending to be over a point per game winger and would have looked great next to Stutzle.
To me, this is a bigger miss than Boucher in 2021.

My theory on why they chose Jarventie is that Peterka is basically a Stutzle clone; same body type, same playing style, same strengths and weaknesses. They might've been thinking, let's get the bigger Jarventie and add some variety to the lineup.

In hindsight, huge miss but you win some and lose some. Vegas, Dallas, Detroit and San Jose all chose a different player too, and are probably kicking themselves.

It's very refreshing to see a number of players from this bottom of the barrel prospect pool step up and surprise this season.

I know things have been a little bleak in this respect, and with good reason given team management in recent years, but all is not lost.

Merilainen has incredible stats vs the rest of goalies. The team is 11-13-0 when he is not playing

As for skaters, it's mostly AHL unknown vets who are doing better than expected. Here's the stats for the prospects (GP - G - A - PTS)

Stephen Halliday 43 14 20 34
Cole Reinhardt 20 8 12 20
Donovan Sebrango 38 6 10 16
Maxence Guenette 38 5 8 13
Xavier Bourgault 40 5 8 13
Oskar Pettersson 44 5 5 10

Pretty much only Merialinen, Halliday and Sebrango seem to be doing well among prospects. All the others have less than 10 pts.

It's incredible how Merilanen has progressed this season, while Sogaard is free falling
