What I’m hearing is, the Avs could set a new NHL record this year!

Laf and Kakko will be fine. The latter would be the third best forward with the Avs on 5v5 points, and they are actually trying him at center now. Turns out his upside might be a #2C after all. Laf is already a top winger, and would be PPG if he was on PP1. There's a reason the Rangers are holding on for these young players, and are trying to shake up the vets.

As for the goaltending with the Avs, I can use the quote from Jeremy Clarkson: "It's like looking through the menu at a Scottish restaurant. Not much in it, and nothing you'd want". Blackwood could be interesting, but I think the Sharks are totally fine with keeping him.

Here's an out of box thought: Matt Murray from the Toronto Marlies. He's cheap, a proven veteran, and #4 in the Leafs depth chart.
I don't think they'll be fine at all. They're both legit NHLers, but neither is the franchise cornerstone they needed when they were selected at the top/near top of their respective draft classes. They're *good*, not great. I don't have hope that either will reach their lofty potential.

And really, Avs haven't been great at 5v5 offensively, they do a ton of their damage on the power play this year (which is obviously not a good thing) so I don't think that's a great comparable.

No thanks on Murray. Doesn't matter how good he is, a goalie won't help when he's spending the vast majority of every season on LTIR.

Better place to ask this:

If Askarov becomes the superstar he projected to become in his draft year I swear...

I'll forever remember that he was right there, available for cheap, on ELC, and we didn't pay what it takes to get him.

Edit: Button in his final rankings in 2020 had him at 6:

Honest question, but have we heard the Preds were willing to trade a promising goalie prospect in division, and what the asking price was?

Friedman said the Avs inquired.

Maybe they just weren't willing to run the risk of him becoming the best goalie of the 3, and shoving it in their face 4 times a year, or impacting their playoff chances/playoff runs, after going with UFA Wedgewood as backup instead him?

If it makes you feel better, 10 of the goals against were empty netters, meaning the Avs record with a goalie is 73 goals against on 561 shots (87.0% save percentage)

Only if you ignore that this is being compared to other teams under the same parameters so if you take away our empty netters, you also have to take away theirs haha.

I’d like to know a single human being that wouldn’t be completely broken playing behind this shit year after year.

The worst in the league in all of these categories against.

Save John Gibson.

I've felt this way since Varly left lol.

I did not think he'd sign there last time. There is most likely a woman at fault somewhere in there.

I'm cool with Gibson...I'm not cool with the cost some have floated. I still maintain any team taking Gibson, even retained is doing the Ducks a solid. Nobody wants a 6.4M backup and it's Dostal's team now.

Should have just drafted the consensus best goalies at the time of our picks that were available in Dostal and Wolf instead of f***ing Annunen and Miner. Smfh

This seems like a hindsight is 20-20 situation, I took a very brief look at goalie ranking for 2018 and 2019 and there’s quite a few lists that had Annunen ranked high, and there are some 2019 lists with Miner in the top-10 for goalies.
