How soon after the Avs’ disastrous 48 point season did they make the POs? IIRC, the answer was pretty quickly.

That wasn't the start of their rebuild in 2016-17 for the Avs. That was mid rebuild. Followed by a re-tool when they traded Duchene for Girard+ at the start of 2017-18.

The Avs rebuild started with MacKinnon's draft in 2013.

Roy willed a shitty defense into the playoffs and lost in round 1 the first year. Then they missed the playoffs the next three years. Then made the playoffs, but lost in round 1 in 2017-18. Then made it to the second round in 2018-19 five years after the start of their rebuild.

If you commit to a rebuild, you're commiting to sucking for a little while, and missing the playoffs, so that you stockpile high draft picks.

Not sure when Chicago committed to their rebuild, but it was probably when they traded Keith in the summer before 2021-22. They're on their way to missing the playoffs for the fourth time in a row since then. Would be 5 if you start it at 2020-21.

If St Louis is smart, and they decide to trade someone like Parayko, they should commit to a rebuild to stockpile high draft picks, and that means missing the playoffs the next little while.

Well, they are not. They will continue to retool. They refuse to bottom out the way Chicago has. Which I love. They'll be mediocre for a while

We would be very happy with Nelson as 2C for a stretch run.

6’4”, has 35 goals a season the past 3 years, and is a great skater who is at the top of the league in those bursts off the rush that we love to use in Bednar’s system.

We probably won’t be able to extend him as he will want a raise on his current $6m and at 33 years old, it’s a contract that will likely age badly.

He’s also heavily rumoured to sign with Minnesota in the summer or go back to Long Island.

Nonetheless, for a rental and playoff run, he’d obviously be a huge improvement on Mitts and give us a strong 2nd line presence.

Mid-rebuild? Sure but you should still look at the changes in the roster from the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 seasons. And I’m pretty sure the Avs weren’t making the POs without getting G and trading Duchene. What a difference to the D adding G was. He was the perfect player for JB’s transition game.

Yeah watching the team before and after trading for G was like night and day.

Said a lot about how bad the D core was and how perfect Sammy fit Bednar's system.

I also think that decision to focus on improving the D core (Makar, Girard, Byram, Manson) is what won them the Cup. They took it for granted and now they have to do another mini version of it.

lol not even Seth f***ing Jones wanted anything to do with the Avs

Unreal lmaooooo

We were apparently heavily interested and that was reported by multiple insiders, but he wasn’t even willing to waive to come back to where he lived ages 2-12, his dad works for the Nuggets, and Joe Sakic taught him how to skate.

“I’m not going to f***ing Denver”

The phrase of all NHLers.
