Knight's pure potential may have dropped from when he was initially drafted, but that drop would still have his potential way higher than Nabokov's. Plus, Knight is in the NHL already, Chicago management can at least evaluation him on that compared to trying to guess if Nabokov can transfer
Nabokov's potential is sky high. His equivalents from his KHL numbers is Vasilevsky. He's a much different style goaltender than Knight and yes not as safe as a prospect, but I'm saying we had a top tier goalie prospect we could have included in a deal, and I would have added extra value. Missed opportunity to really solidify a huge position for the duration of our window.

Are you serious? They also have Barkov at 10 and Reinhart 8.5. Their best players get paid as well as ours do. The Panthers just happen to have a significantly more competent management group then the Avs.
Yeah I edited my post since I forgot about Barkov. The Avs problem is not able to draft depth players so they have to trade for them and give them more money than we would have if we could draft better. Oh well

Crazy. Didn’t realize you could try and improve your team as a defending Cup Champion. Guess Cmac must have missed that memo 2 years ago.

Must be nice to have competent management over there in Florida.
The Avs let in EXACTLY the same number of goals in 22-23, as they did in their cup winning season. This despite going from Kuemper to Georgiev.

Again, major difference here:
Nabokov is a prospect
Knight is not

I get it. I'm just saying I still would have added enough value to tip the scales, and Chicago still gets a young goalie that maybe they need to wait 1 more year on.

I understand they like Knight more, and maybe that was their main target and there's nothing CMac could have done. It just seems like a light return for a player like Jones with that retention attached. It's a big missed opportunity and the timing of the Lindgren deal suggests we were there to the end.

Well, now what?

Ritchie + Mitts + 1st for Thomas and Parayko?

Dobson and Nelson/Pageau since we're dreaming big.

In reality? They made their move for a defenseman already with Lindgren. We'll get some tweener center.

And right after that, Kat Dennings will show up to my house in nothing but a smile

That would be a steal for the Avs. Thomas’ skating doesn’t fit into the Avs, but the guy is so smart I could see him still making it work. Parayko as 3D would be awesome
