2024 2025 Tank Thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
Why would we not tank when we are at risk of finishing 9th….

When we got rid of our 100pt center.

When pay a 11.6 mil player producing like a 3rd liner.

When our best D player is injured probably remainder of the season and whom will leave in 2 years.

Anyone logical poster not blinded by ego would be suggesting tank route or something similar.

You answered your own questions in your first sentence. We're at risk of finishing 9th. Which means we're still just as likely finish above that, ie in the playoffs.

In the real world teams don't tank in that position. They just don't.

If we were sitting where the kraken, preds etc were sure I'd be screaming tank while wearing my conductor hat driving the choo choo tank train down the tracks. The team has 2 games in hand on the blues and has been trading back and forth with the Flames for a while.

Yeah they might get in and get knocked out in the first but no gm, owner, player etc is throwing in the towel where the Canucks are.

And yeah this is the tank thread, I'll kindly show myself out.

Aaanyways. Who are some targets in the middle of the 1st?
I recall liking a kid by the name of Carter bear. His stats are insane level for a team that plays the trap. But he’s more like 20s guy so I don’t really know much.

Not only should the tank thread be stickied, it should be perma-stickied so it never leaves the very top of the forum

Always

Winning season or losing season, or chasing wc2 season, it's best to lull the hockey gods to sleep with an active tank thread, since the Canucks have obviously angered them back in the early early '70's and as long as they are on the ball, this team will never succeed

Really when you think about it, the anti-tankers have ensured this dismal fate, making it a certainty the hockey gods will pay just enough attention to the Canucks to swat them down whenever success rears its head

Feel free to unholster pitchforks and begin the witch hunt for anti-tankers, burning them at the stake is really for their own good

And if nothing else, we get to enjoy a bonfire

Figuratively speaking, of course

Of course

I've heard a lot of discouraging reports about the 2025 draft.

But I find it interesting that the Canucks were willing to deal away almost all their picks in the 2024 draft; but have kept all this picks this season. They've even replaced the third rounder they previously traded with a pickup of San Jose's third rounder via the Soucy trade with the Rangers.

So clearly their scouts feel there's some good players available in the early rounds of the June draft. Their prospect pipeline needs all the help it can get.

I don’t know anything about his exam findings or how he’s doing, but man, I hope we aren’t going to put Hughes at risk of injuring himself further by playing him vs the Flames…

…it just feels like their could be some pressure from higher up to get him into the lineup so we can get that #8 playoff spot.

Maybe that’s just my paranoia.

"No team in our position would let a Quinn Hughes type player get fully healthy and risk missing out on some delicious playoff revenue!

That is Video Game logic."

- Some posters, probably.

Toccs has already mentioned changing health protocols should they want to put Hughes back into the lineup

But surely Canucks and their . . . "medical" . . . staff are not that stupid, right?

Right?

YEAH! Get out of here with your old boys club logic. We are progressive with our thoughts here. 🤣

Once Lekkerimaki and Willander graduate out of the pool. You probably aren't going to replace them with the first and second rounder this year. The Canucks will most likely drop in prospect pool rankings. Down in the standings with no plan in place.

With the Blues buttersoft schedule that game most likely ends their playoff hopes.

Too many points collected to get anything worst than probably 14th overall. Will miss out on any top 6 calibre center prospects.

Trade deadline was botched. Quinn Hughes magical consecutive Norris Campaign ruined by injuries.

This is up there with 2016 as one of the more disastrous Canuck seasons in recent memory.

Mgmt needs to trade up into the Top 10 and get a C.

Mgmt needs to trade up into the Top 10 and get a C.

With what exactly.

Is there a team giving up a top 10 pick to slide back to 15, 47 and 65?

Are we trading Hronek?

Are you one of the ones who thinks Demko has positive value, let alone top 10 pick value?

Are we trading our unprotected 1st for 2026 for a guaranteed top 10 in 2015?

Age gape Lekkerimaki or Willander the wrong way into a 17 yr old center?

This orginization is a joke top to bottom and has zero assets compared to every single team that isnt us.

We have two players we could chop up into some actual value and if you post a Ep40 proposal fans lose their minds because we already lack centers.

If we trade Huggy we could rebuild the team but lets be honest its sacrilegious to even contemplate.

We are neither tanky enough or good enough. Again.

Demko doesn't have positive value?

Not a shred.

Like he'd get signed if he was a UFA this offseason but not a single team is paying us to nab him, no.

Is Cam Talbot and 2.5m cap savings poeitive value, cause MAYBE that.

Itd be very detroit to "solve" their goaltending with Mrazek and Demko and neither plays 20 games though.

Would you give up value, as say Carolina, for Demmer?
