Pettersson for Necas, Kotkaniemi and Morrow ASAP. Tomorrow, if possible. (There was a first round pick also included in this package but I think that's probably off the table with Pettersson's play).

Miller and the Canucks 2016 1st rounder for Mercer and Nemec. This can be now or in the offseason. The Canucks 1st rounder will be enticing as we would have traded both Pettersson and Boeser prior to this trade, making people think that the pick could be a high one.

Re-sign Lankinen, offer Demko for a conditional 1st round pick in the event that the team who trades for him makes the playoffs. Otherwise it becomes a 2nd round pick.

Now you have a new, younger forward group that consists of Necas, Kotkaniemi, Mercer, DeBrusk and Lekkerimaki.

And your defensive core is now Hughes, Hronek, Morrow, Willander, Soucy and Myers.

You lost your 2026 1st rounder but you gained a 1st rounder in the Boeser trade.

And you enter the offseason with a TON of cap space to make a run at someone like Rantanen, Marner, Gavrikov, etc.

This allows you to compete for the playoffs as soon as next season while also extending your flexibility and window to compete.

this should be the PLAN going forward. sell everything draft better in the first two rounds with high picks depending on where they finish. restart again next year. fresh new faces.

I for one would like to see this team do what successful teams do. Accumulate picks, prospects and cap space. And then take the time to let them develop. yes it takes years. The reason Canadian teams don't win the Stanley cup is largely do to impatience. Most of the teams keep trading draft picks and prospects to slightly upgrade a position, so that they can back into the playoffs. Dim Jim was an expert at this, except the part where he actually made the playoffs.

The caveat to this is that in order to keep Hughes in Vancouver, we have to balance a rebuild with trying to compete.

That's why my proposal was more of a re-tool that made us younger, but still gave us players who can compete right now and are the same age range as Hughes.

Hughes has the potential to be the greatest Canuck in history, we have to factor in what letting him walk for nothing would do to the organization.

Debrusk/Sherwood/Suter/Soucy/Lankinen should all be gone by the deadline. Stock up on picks. Hopefully the toxicity continues and the team continues to show nothing but quit. Beautiful season so far. Love Miller messing up plays on purpose. True tank commander.

Hagens feel like a guy that will do his 4 years in college and become a UFA instead of signing in Vancouver.
