So I guess Verbeek only fleeces Sweeney? How do they not get any additional assets for taking that contract? Trouba sucks.
1st Round Pick to take half of Backes' hit for a year and a bit.

2nd Round Pick to take $2.5M of John Moore for a month.

$16M of Jacob Trouba? Don't worry. I got you, fam.

This is actually because they think they're getting a great defenseman for no assets. Hockey world hasn't come around to noticing how bad Trouba has become.

Hearing the Brady Tkachuk rumors, I dismissed them. No way the Senators deal that guy. No way! But I swear to f*** if the Rags use this to acquire him, I'm gonna lose my God damn mind.

A) They can flip him with the extra year, either this year or next and

B) Hockey GMs - like most of this board - like big defenseman who hit stuff even if they’re not good at actual defense. See: Ben Chiarot.

All due respect, but those weren't the deals that were made. It's just pure speculation to say this part of the trade from one team was the sole price for another piece of the deal from the other when there were other components to the deal. Do the Bruins give up a 1st if they weren't getting back a 24-year old winger in Kase who was viewed as a legit NHL winger at the time and had 3 seasons at a 20g/25 assist pace. I don't know but we can only look at the deals as a whole we don't know who valued what or how much.

You see some of the comments on social media on the Trouba deal sometimes I think fan's expectations of what teams should give up to take on what the fan's perceive as bad contracts is a bit wacky. It's not like Trouba has 4-5 years left. Rest of this year and next year for a young team that could use some veteran toughness and has LOADs of cap space to work with this year and next.

Time to strike and offer Pasta and Zacha for Kreider, Zibanejad and LaFreinerre.

oh-god-thats-terrible-butters-stotch.gif

Horrible, horrible, horrible proposal - besides how are you going to fit in the extra $6.2 million cap hit ????

Pasta - 28 years old ( $11.5 million cap hit for the next 6 seasons )
Zacha - 27 years old ( $4.75 million cap hit for the next 2 seasons )

Zibanejad - 31 years old ( $8.5 million cap hit for the next 6 seasons )
Kreider - 33 years old ( $6.5 million cap hit for the next 2 seasons )
Lafreniere - 23 years old ( 7.45 million cap hit for the next 8 seasons - starts next season )

Can't imagine how Drury has gone about all this has sat well with a Rangers locker room that already sounded like it was on the verge of falling apart.

It's one thing to trade a guy, but to essentially weaponize the media and then use what is a loophole that has started to gain traction amongst GMs. Barry Trotz did the same thing to Ryan McDonagh if memory serves which is how he ended up in Tampa again. Simple fix for this is guys are just going to start asking for full NMCs instead so this isn't something the league needs to step in and fix like the cap circumvention of years past.

People want consequences but the truth is, there probably won't be any. The Rangers play in arguably the most glamorous/prestigious market in north american pro sports. For every guy they dick around, there's two others willing to ignore it so they can play there. We already sort of seen this play out with Vegas too. Treated players like disposable objects and yet it didn't stop people from wanting to be there.

As for Shesterkin, i don't think any goalie is worth that type of money. Guys like Hellebyuck and Swayman imo are already pushing it being up in the 8s but 11.5 is nuts for a position who literally cannot win a game by themselves. Already saw this play out last decade with Carey Price in Montreal.

If Tkachuk was available Pasta would be the Name I float to them, Not the eating kind either.

Would that be enough or would we need to add? Contract being what it is.

Oh Hell yes! Sens get a guy who will most likely get hot again (with the right C & W). Hey, they can have Freddy too. Bruins get to be the Big Badass Bruins again. It's Neely's wet dream (and many of us we fans too). Changes the whole dynamic of the team and starts a huge re-tool.
