If it’s a straightforward fracture, it’s probably not a big enough setback to put the Blues into lottery for the first pick territory. But maybe playoffs become unlikely.

I was never that worried about the outcome this season, but I want to see a competitive club where the young players are rising.

I’m not going to root for losses and a higher draft pick at this point.

I agree. I think this will make it VERY tough for The Blues to even reach the lowest Wild Card spot in The Playoffs, whereas, WITH Thomas all season, and Dvorsky coming up some weeks in the future, I was confident they'd have a decent chance at it, and possibly even surprise everyone to finish 3rd in The Division. But now, realistically, that is all probably a severe longshot, at best. It WILL likely mean that Dvorsky will be called up significantly earlier than he'd have been, otherwise, and he'll get more ice time for sure, unless The Blues trade for a veteran centre. I hope they don't just waste future player assets on an overpaid 30+ fill-in centre. And because THEY will be seen as the desperate team in the transaction, they certainly won't be able to find a "bargain deal" for a young player that's in their favour. They'll have to overpay for a player that will just keep them afloat, and likely not get them into the playoffs. So, I recommend that they don't do that.

Beyond that, I'm wondering if they'll also bring up Dean and Move Sundqvist to the wing, as they'll be no pressure at all to make The Playoffs, and maybe they'll use this time to get their youthful forwards experience playing (and growing) together.

I don’t really want to see Dean up here anytime soon. First I need some confirmation that he can actually score at the AHL level, because we have yet to see that.

Hopefully he can get it going so that we can call him up later in the season.

Best case scenario is Thomas is cleared in 6 weeks and has a short 1-2 week rehab to get back in shape. However that means he misses 25-30 games.
Have no idea why you wouldnt bring up Dvo. There was 8 forwards taken in the top 10 of that draft, 5 of those forwards are in the NHL now. Move Buch up to play between Bolduc and Kyrou, and play Dvo between Saad and Neighbours.

The answer here isn't to abandon your development plan for a 19 year old kid and thrust him into NHL minutes simply because your only top 6 center and best player went down. He can't fix this, he can get huge minutes in the AHL where he can more quickly gain the confidence needed to take that next step though and he should be left in Springfield to do that.

My desire is to see him play the entire season in Springfield and if he plays well call him up at the end of the season for a cup of coffee.

On the other side, such a weird situation with the Blues. They seem hesitant to commit to a full rebuild, trying desperately to get that playoff revenue, this season.

For those of you who are opposed to bringing up Dvorsky, are you open to the Blues going out and trading for another center?

Can you imagine if that had been the approach with a 19 year old Robert Thomas?

We didn't gave that option with a 19-yo RobThom. He had to be in the NHL or CHL. AHL was absolutely not an option per league agreements before he turned 20.

It's 6 weeks, maybe 8. You struggle through. They want to be competitive if they can, but they also aren't going to rush it.

If you believe everything they have said and shown, they may explore cheap options on guys with upside, but they aren't going to spend a ton of assets or rush a young player. And that is the correct call

Yes. This is what I expect DA to do. He's working the phones right now.

I'm not sure who is still available from the UFA/PTO pool, but we could pick up a placeholder for nothing. Did Tyler Johnson sign with anyone? We're not going to get quality that way, but at least we could better manage the roster in a way that other players, especially the younger ones, are kept in the role we intended.

I’d see what we have internally first. Try Holloway at C. Try Tex at C again. Sundqvist, Walker…but fact remains, the next 6 weeks are probably going to be a struggle. I’m not in favor of paying assets to bring in a short term bandaid solution. Sink or swim with this group. If a trade that makes sense now but also in the future materializes, go for it, but that’s unlikely so I’m not counting on it.
