Compared to pre-season, our defense has improved in his model and offense has gotten worse. I think that more or less tracks, we just don't have an offense that you can feel that confident about. We are 7th in goals against per game, but 24th in goals for per game. Thomas being out will just make that worse.

Those hope is that players like Holloway and Bolduc develop throughout the year and find a scoring groove at some point. Can throw Texier in as well, but the goal is that by the end of the year you have 2 lines that are producing like top 6 lines and not just 3 players in Thomas, Buchnevich, and Kyrou, and then others along for the ride.

no no no

all odds are 50%

for example, will I win the lottery?
either I will or I won't
so 50%
see how fun and easy math can be
But what if I was already in one plane crash? What are the odds being in another?

lol

I know.....50-50.....it's always 50-50.

I have a challenge for someone motivated. I’m trying to find footage of one of my favorite Tarasenko goals. It was on the road against Ottawa or maybe Calgary (I’m sure it was a Canadian team). He received a pass from behind or beside the net. Into the slot. Wrist shot. It was on and off his stick in like .2 seconds, and made a loud sound as it hit the pipe going in, faster than anyone could react. I can’t remember the goalie, but I think he didn’t hardly move. Then the camera showed the opponent’s bench and they all looked stunned, like “wow”. Probably in the first few years of his career.

Is that enough info to find it?

This is close. It may be the right goal and I’m remembering it wrong. But I remember a view of the opposite bench looking shocked at the speed and power of his wrist shot, and maybe a a comment about how much time the puck was on his stick. And there was a loud “tink!” when it hit the pipe, but it was so fast you heard it before you could see where the puck went.

It was on the road, pretty sure vs a Canadian team. I want to say Ottawa, but I get them confused with Calgary sometimes.

This is the only one I can find with the tink.

Perunovich is creeping up the 'never scored a goal' leader boards that absolutely no one wants to be on. Keep in mind, these are all time career totals, so scoring a goal would remove him from these lists. I don't think he's on the cusp of playing his last career NHL game and will likely get a chance somewhere else if/when things don't work out here. So I wouldn't bet on him to never score a career NHL goal and remain on these lists for the rest of his life.

He's played the 15th most NHL regular season games without scoring a goal. 7 more games without a goal and he'll be in sole possession of 10th. He's 16th in shots without scoring a goal. 4 more shots without scoring will move him into sole possession of 10th.

But most impressively, he is the NHL's all time points leader among players without an NHL goal. His 23 assists is 8 more than 2nd place (Steven Halko, who is also the games played and shots leader).

Every day I hope to finally see the news that Perunovich has been traded or waived. I’m very sick of the whole situation with him.

Speaking of young defensemen, I’m also out on Matt Kessel. I know he has some fans on this board but he really offers nothing to the lineup. He’s been downright brutal to start this season as a giveaway machine. I feel that he doesn’t have much of an identity as a player either. He’s not an offensive guy nor a shutdown guy. His physicality isn’t consistent. His hockey IQ seems lacking to me - he seems to be prone to the same mistakes that I saw from him all the way back in development camp. He’s a 5th round pick so it’s not a big deal but I can almost guarantee he’s going to be just like Perunovich and Tucker, that we thought he might take that next step but instead he’s not even going to be on the team next year.

Hopefully one of our prospects comes along and solidifies the 3rd pairing at some point. I’d like for it to be Leo Loof later this season who gets a look.

I don't really disagree with your assessment here, but it is also true of the large majority of 6th-8th D men in this league. The reality of the position right now is that if you do one thing well and/or can be consistently 'fine' then you are more than a #6 D man and will earn $2M+ AAV. Damn near every team in the league has a guy in their starting 6 D group that drives you crazy and has major flaws to his game. A lot of the good teams get that guy out of their starting 6 at the trade deadline by bringing in a rental upgrade, but you also see a bunch of teams essentially run 5 deep on the blueline in playoffs with a 6th guy who gets heavily limited minutes.

Kessel hasn't had a good start to the season, but he was a genuinely competent 3rd pair D man last season. He should get more chances to find that form, because 24 year old 6'2" RD still have room to grow and aren't growing on trees. He's got 2 more years of team control beyond this season, so he should continue to be cheap depth for a while.

Yeah I hear ya. He’s a 5th round pick so the fact that he’s playing NHL games at all is solid value for that. Like I said, it’s not a big deal but I think he just got overrated by the fans/media last season and was being talked about as a guy that could be top 4. I guess I’m mainly pushing back against that and am confident that’s not going to happen.

I don't understand the need to get rid of guys at this point. I despise Perunovich (as a player not person) and have been vocally against him for longer than most. Yet I don't see the point in having him claimed off waivers or trading him for a bag of pucks.

We can't bring anyone else in. If there are better players in the organization now, we can play them without losing an asset. But losing an asset for nothing is pointless. It's reactionary. If nothing else, if we get a ridiculous rash of injuries, he's a warm body to keep from calling up a kid who needs to be in the AHL. If we want to call up an AHL player, we can waive him then and I'd hope he clears. The mistake was signing him in the offseason when we could have signed a different warm body instead.

The same goes for Kessel. What's the upside of sending him down. We have nobody better. AHL isn't going to help his development at this point. Best to keep him up and work with him. Then if he still plays below expectation, we can address it in the off season.

If Kessel doesn’t improve soon, I’d like to see Army go get Liljegren.

However, I don’t know if another GM would give Army a young dman with high potential that needs a change of scenery lmao.
