2024/2025 Around the League

Trouba did not want to play for Jets too. Columbus is not the only unattractive city.

I know Winterpeg gets the vote as worst place to play but having spent time in Columbus I totally get why a young. millionaire hockey player would not want to go there. Place is exciting as a midwest Applebees on a Tuesday,

Although Trouba denies that his wife had any part in this, I think that's BS. It absolutely did.
Trouba, 30, said he and his wife discussed Anaheim as a potential destination but emphasized that her career opportunities weren’t the decisive factor in approving a trade to the Ducks. UCI Health in the nearby city of Orange has a neuroscience program that could be a fit for Dr. Kelly Tyson-Trouba’s specialized study of brain injuries. Ducks owners Henry and Susan Samueli have their name on the UC Irvine’s School of Engineering.

“There’s places that she can obviously work that are better than others,” he said. “I think Anaheim is a great opportunity for her as well, if we’re there longer term. It’s something that worked for both of us, so I think that was definitely part of it. Going that deep into it, not really. But, yes, it is a good opportunity for her as well.”

What? This is amazing. So the husband goes out of his way to give people brain injuries and then his wife studies the people her husband has hurt. What kind of weird stuff is going on in that family?

Michkov 2 goals again today @dahrougem2

Going to be an interesting Calder race this year with Michkov, Celebrini and Hutson...although Michkov probably has it in the bag if he keeps this pace.

Not weird at all, that a supportive husband right there. Providing more specimens to study, you need a large number of cases to have strong research.

I wish the Ducks got Zads as well now, just having Zadorov, Gudas and Trouba on the blue line would be hilarious. Huge runs and lots of goals against!

It’s funny how both NY and Toronto are go-to destinations but you rarely see them actually use this to their advantage. It’s true that Panarin took less money than what other places were offering but it wasn’t by much. And I have yet to see the Leafs truly lowball a guy and have him end up there anyway because he used to have their logo emblazoned on his Underoos.

The Rangers were almost literally gifted a top-tier defenseman, an elite star winger in his prime, already had a future superstar netminder, a first and second overall pick in consecutive years, and couldn’t turn all that into a championship team.

What’s weird is the NHL players seem to be the biggest prima donnas when it comes to this.

The NBA probably has the biggest prima donna element of all the sports leagues, but mostly NBA players are less fixated on NY/LA/Mia than one might think. They value good organizations that prioritize them.

The NFL has a team in Green Bay, Wisconsin. And it’s appealing for many to play there. Green Bay has a population of 105K. In contrast, Winnipeg has over 700K. Columbus has around 900K. Obviously, Green Bay has a storied tradition and that’s part of the appeal. But still. It’s a little bit odd that this is as much of a thing that it is in the NHL.

NHL players backgrounds are probably a bit different to NFL or Basketball.

Shane Wright quietly on pace for 22 goals this season.

Not exactly piling up the assists, but at least for Seattle he's scoring goals.

I think a bigger issue than Wright for Seattle is that Matty Beniers in year 3 is on pace for only 46 points. At some point you've got to start producing, otherwise you're a smaller version of Jordan Staal.

Toronto is only attractive if you grew up in Ontario. It's just that a lot of players grew up in Ontario.

You won't find a lot of players from the US, Europe, or other provinces like QC, BC or AB that dream of playing for the Leafs.

The real attractive markets are Vegas, Florida, Tampa, NYR.
