Off the top of my head, Jake Middleton and Josh Manson are both rule breakers that never really produced at lower levels

Reminds me a lot of Brendan Dillon but smaller.

Manson and Middleton are good examples as well.

Best open ice hit I've seen in a while

When he commits to hitting a guy he doesn't miss, I'll give him that

Having said that I'd like to see his offensive game develop like it did in the back half of last season, his offensive trajectory was looking promising when we drafted him

At the moment he's looking like a statistical outlier if he makes it and those aren't great bets

In the London game as well
The next Trouba
I hope he makes the transition to the NHL. That's how you intimidate the other team. If they know they can get smoked crossing the blue line...

We all would like to see that and I know he helps a player make it to the show, but his skating and brain are damn good and if they get better, why can't he be a full time shutdown defenseman? I mean if he is, that saves us money too :dunno:

You would hope that some defensemen are drafted for defending, not being a rover in junior.

They weren't drafted in the first round. And they're the exception to the rule, not the rule. So it leaves a bit of room for hope, but not much.

Good shut down guys can move the puck efficiently, getting the puck out of your zone to one of your guys helps the old G/A

The last couple highlight hits from him he seems to come in really low on them, I haven’t seen too many guys his size go in for hits crouched over and exploding up like that. On one hand that should avoid headshot penalties but on the other I have a bad feeling it gets him blown up if he tries that against a 220 pound NHL sized forward.

since people mentioned Tanev, and being undrafted, from Wikistupedia:

In 2009–10, he joined the NCAA Division I ranks with the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Tigers of the Atlantic Hockey Conference. Placed on the team's top defensive pairing with team captain Dan Ringwald,[3] he recorded 10 goals and 28 points over 41 games, while leading his team with a +33 plus-minus rating. After being named Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week on three occasions during the season, he received Rookie of the Year honours and was named to the conference's All-Rookie and Third All-Star Teams.[5] In the 2010 playoffs, Tanev helped the Tigers to a conference championship, defeating the Sacred Heart Pioneers in the final. He was named to the All-Tournament Team. Advancing to the NCAA tournament, RIT was eliminated in the national semifinal by the Wisconsin Badgers. Tigers head coach Wayne Wilson described him during his freshman year as a "late bloomer", having grown six inches in his final year of junior, while praising his offensive skills.[4]

Defensemen that are drafted for defending still generally put up points in junior. Putting up points as a defenseman in junior does not mean you're a "rover".

🤣
1+1=2
Easy no grey area ... sad reality though.
Who is their best defenseman?
What in the world are you on about? Nobody has said anything about any of that. You're the one acting like putting up points in junior makes you a rover, when some baseline junior production level is generally just a can-you-make-a-pass quality check.
