The longer you pay attention to drafts, the more you realize no one knows very much a year or two out. You don’t make picks for who will be better at age 19. There’s likely a player no one is talking about right now that will be the Jason Roberson of that draft.

The one things I know about drafts is if you built a Time Machine and went back before 2021 and told me we had a 4OA and 2OA and we used both on a defenseman I would be really depressed lol.

Well, I would wonder why you used a Time Machine to specifically do that of all things, but putting that aside, drafting defensemen is a very tricky thing. Being very smug in the Jiricek vs Nemec debate is not a great choice, there’s a lot of ways this can go with both of them.

I wanted Jiricek just because I love that style of defenseman and it's something we don't have. Hard to for me to not like Nemec though, my heritage is 100% Slovak so I loved seeing us take him.

This shows what I mean, personal preference for D-men comes into play a lot when deciding who you prefer between the 2.

Chances are that Jiricek becomes good, if it's one thing CBJ knows how to develop it's defensemen but the Devils have a better roster to incorporate Nemec into. Both guys will be really good tbh.
