Kids' teams of high end players are subject to all sorts of counterproductive things. Lazy play, selfish play, entitled play, unnecessarily risky play, and poor coaching that won't pull the better players to nip those things in the bud. My thought is we saw all of that on display today. Hopefully the coaches can sit down the guys who need to be sat down and explain how they need to play for the team to be successful.

I have them all as Tier 4. 1-4 Bedard, Carlsson, Michkov, Fantilli. Because I just can`t imagine who will translate better. WHo will compensate their weak sides, who will fix their weak side. Fantilli looks like he have weakest iq but greatest physical tools. Of course guy like scouching who placed Michkov somewhere in the middle of the first round is clearly trying to hate player and it put him in position... where he was. We can listen him, but he was never good in what he is trying to do. He likes something personally, he doesn`t like something personally and always trying to fix and change narrative without adapting it for nhl realities. Now we see how good Snuggerrud and Gauthier are and how low he was on them, how Slaf was picked by number one pick. And now how he put Mitchkov on 15th(or something like that) position after his first game in Sochi and on the next game 17-18 yo player scores goal and shotout. And he produced A LOT in VHL before.
I`m trying to not be so scouching and biased and understand that Michkov is great and smart but he isn`t as good in two way game as Carlsson, not as physical. On the other hand Mitchov can turn the moment like he want.
I think we both know Scouching is a bit "lost at sea", so to speak. He's superior to some of the other stat-based draft guys and he puts in the work, but some of his takes are just baffling.

As for Michkov, I just think he has rare offensive ability -- he's a true, bona fide game breaker. Anyone who ranks him outside the top 3, much less the top 5, needs to seriously rethink their rationalizations.

He created a couple good chances in the offensive zone over the previous 5 minutes and was controlling play really well in the offensive zone for that period. That's mainly what I was referring to. He'd been basically a non factor prior to that. His defensive ability has been terrible.
Ah ok, that makes sense then. I was specifically looking at his game and was... underwhelmed.

Nemec with 25:31 TOI, leads SVK by over 2 minutes.

Hughes with 25:00 TOI, only USA player in the 20's, leads US by over 6 minutes.

We got 2 good ones people.

Jiri Kulich has been absolutely, stunningly phenomenal through two games. His elite combination of IQ and compete reminds me of Dawson Mercer, as does his positional and situational versatility. He's going to be a stud for Buffalo, and I'd go so far as to say he might be the Sabres' gem of a 2022 draft class which also included Savoie and Ostlund.

Gauthier is going to be a superstar for Philly. As I liked to say last year, he's like the Lost Tkachuk Brother. Heck of a prospect.

Cooley was in my top 10 last year -- I had him at #5 -- but I'm not sure I'd take him so high anymore. He's really good at utilizing his teammates on the man advantage, but not so much on 5x5.
I was not a fan of Savoie and was glad we droped to the 2nd spot because I had some worries. I don`t know why I had them because Fitz in my view would never draft him in top-5. Now Filmon has the same level of producing in WHL as Savoie.

I don`t like small players who likes to play on perimetr and doesn`t involve in interior game, doesn`t look great without the puck when the team is trying to prevent or defense. I think Cooley is better as two way player than Savoie, but I just didn`t like him "for the Devils". On the other hand I liked Nazar and I wasn`t worry about his size. Because I don`t have worries about his game.

Both our guys were good, as most of us said Luke could have easily had 2-3 helpers himself. Luke isn’t ready for the NHL yet, his defensive game is bad at the u-20 level so can’t imagine what he’d look like in the league. throw him a meaningless game or 2 at the end of the season but he’s gotta get better before he’s in the lineup

Nemec wasn’t as flashy but made a lot of effective plays on both ends and is very very poised with the puck on his stick.

Luke will be fine, Devils went out of their way to find their "Toews" to Luke's Cale Maker style in Marino. Guy is basically as advertised, not to mention this team USA really sucks compared to their teams in the past. The only guys worthwhile are him, Cooley and Gauthier. Also Nemec had an incredible game.

Sorry but Marino isn’t even close to on Toews level. Nor is Luke on Makar’s level.
This USA team should still be significantly better than Slovakia regardless of who you determine to be worthwhile.

Did I say that? I said playstyles, lol. The Colorado duo are obviously better.
I don’t see how Marino is comparable in any way to Toews. He’s a decent 2nd pair more defensive oriented defensmen. Toews is an elite top pair 2-way defensmen.

Also not sure why it’s relevant to people’s concerns with Luke and his defensive issues specifically. Makar is good defensively.

He's good, but he wasn't that good before making the jump. I remember reading a lot on Makar after he was drafted and a lot of the critiques against him were based around his defensive game.

Now, Makar was almost certainly better defensively than Luke was at the same age. But it goes to show Luke can improve given proper coaching/framework. I'm sure he'll be fine. A lot of attention will be put on his D-game by management.
