I was gonna say "stop, stop. They're already dead." but instead:

No, I know. But I am just wondering what is baseball etiquette? Is it ok to keep swinging? I just hope nobody from the other side takes issue with this. Not that I care if they do, just wondering

100% Cash would do the same thing. I’m sure they’ve beaten up on some position player pitching this year too. If we were playing the DBacks we’d probably hear about the unwritten rules since Jeff Bannister is on their coaching staff.

The one day I was like maybe i shouldn't watch...
its 20-1...
WHAT THE f*** IS GOING !?
Same with me as I watched the Vegas/Dallas game instead

The trouble with a 20-1 victory is it just counts as only ONE win, and they're still in last place in the east at the moment and 2.5 games out of a wildcard spot

What they need to do is go on a long winning streak or an 8 out of 10 run to get back into the thick of the standings and start playing like they belong in the race, but if they win the odd game by multiple runs and then lose the next 4 or 5 games they will soon be outta the race
Well this means the Jays wont score any more runs for the 2 games left lol...
My thoughts exactly

Jeff Bannister. That is a name I haven’t heard in awhile.

Stats can be so deceiving.

In the last 8 games, the Jays have out scored their opponents, 39-37 but have a 2-6 record.

There are 3 traditional cases for position player pitching:

1) stupidly long game (position player versus 2nd starter)

2) injuries (nobody left in the pen)

3) someone who is good at it (this one is very rare as it basically involves a 2 way player.

Every other case is considered showing up your opponent.

I thought to myself hey they really broke out finally. But it was also 10 runs on batting practice pitching. I don't expect a batter to let up too much against non-pitchers but there's something a bit disingenuous about seeing a headline celebrating Vlad's breakout offensive night only to find out that it includes a grand slam off an outfielder.

The headline should have been Springer going 4 for 5.

I count the breakout as what happened before the position players pitched, which was the 10 runs scored in the first 7 innings. The 10 runs against those position players is just a bonus and the only cool thing about it was Vladdy striking out in the 8th and smiling, then next inning crushing a grand slam and having a good time. Maybe that unlocks him a little bit.

And as for the discussion about the position players pitching... On the post game show on the radio, one caller went on a rant that the Jays shouldn't have been piling on the runs, and Jeff Blair (rightfully) ripped him a new one, and this was in fact a cheap & sleazy way of saving your bullpen for the next two games, without it being some crazy long extra inning games when the position players pitching usually happened.

This actually rewarded the Rays for playing a bad game, and it only benefitted the Rays and not the Jays, because the game was already lost.

Jeff suggested there be some kind of punishment like losing a reliever next game for using a position player to pitch before extra innings. I wouldnt be opposed to it.

Tampa broadcast had a bigger problem with Arozarena getting hit by a pitch from Berrios, they thought it was intentional.

Did you notice Vlad also hit the GS without batting gloves on. (like his dad did his whole career)

Well he also didnt put on any protective gear on his elbow etc, because of the slow looping pitch it was not gonna injure if he got hit.

It was a silly game at that stage, and both sides participated. Kevin Cash for trying to get 2 innings out of a position player in a 9 inning game, and the Jays for smashing the baseball off those guys...

I hope MLB takes a look at this game and tweaks these rules.

And do what, mandate that pitchers must throw a certain MPH?

If you say that players have to be either a pitcher or fielder defined on the lineup card then a player like Ohtani cannot exist and you'll never see another one no matter how rare they are. .

Tampa always seems to be in the middle of “heated rivalries” so I won’t be surprised if they play “plop the flop“ tonight or tomorrow after that beat down.

No, not the slow speed, just position players pitching.

Ohtani is obviously a one of a kind beast. Its quite easy to see that he's a full value pitcher and a full value batter.

 Trop as empty back then as it is now, and that was when the Rays were an expansion team and should've had a bit of an interest boost for being new.
