If i had my way over the last 3 off-seasons, the Jays rotation would like this;

Ray
Manoah
Rodon
Bauer
Kikuchi

I will fully admit i also wanted Rodon over Gausman in 2022

"Gausman's numbers in the second half of 2021 are a bad omen!" "He's actually not that good!"

You know what else isn't good? Not being actually available to pitch after signing a big boy deal. And Gausman rubs it in even further with every guy he makes look dumb on his splitter. And i couldn't be happier about it lol.

Never really considered Bauer because i always figured he was using the Jays as a middleman to drive up his price.

Add in other guys I wanted on 1 year deals in their respective free agent years; Porcello, Paxton, Kluber and Syndergaard.
To be fair, I wouldn't have fully disagreed with many of the first group you posted. I thought Ray vs. Gausman was a wash, would have had Rodon as my top target (probably both times he was a free agent), and my complete lack of interest in Bauer had nothing to do with his pitching ability.

I've never had much interest in Porcello or post-Cleveland Kluber, and I was adamantly against Syndergaard at the deadline last year and this offseason (sidenote - he's lost a couple more MPH this year and his fastball is now the same as Bassitt's, and his K rate has cratered even further... yikes!)

Having said all that, I don't remember who my specific alternative targets would have been at the time, but I can't imagine they would look any better than those right now!

Letting Moreno go Major ERROR

Love Moreno but he's not walking, he's striking out fairly often, and he's still not showing power. Varsho's been hot lately with the bat, has elite defence (will likely be top 5 at CF next year), and is one of the best baserunners in the league.

Still SSS for the season but I was definitely on the Tyler Anderson/Andrew Heaney over Chris Bassitt train
I don't remember having strong feelings one way or another about Anderson, but he signed early so there wasn't much time to even consider it. I was definitely on board with Heaney, though.

I liked the deals that Heaney, Quintana, Verlander, and Senga signed, and I would have been thrilled with any of those for the Jays. Heaney's been awful, Senga has a good ERA but pretty ugly peripherals, Verlander has only made one start, and Quintana hasn't thrown a pitch yet. Not a great group so far.

Hey, maybe Shapiro and Atkins know what they are doing? I am glad we have them. They have made some good decisions. I think they knew what they were doing when they signed Guasman, Bassitt.

In Heaney's case I wonder if it's health concerns or the Rangers are tinkering with his pitch usage. He swapped his curve for the Dodger slider last year which was a great strikeout pitch for him. Now he's halved the usage on it and is throwing his changeup about as often as he ever did before. Because of this his whiffs and Ks are at the lowest since his 2015 season.

I actually called Bassitt's signing in one of those "hey these guys might fit" type posts.

Was a little concerned with some of his peripherals because of the shift ban potentially causing problems due to his groundball percentage but he's been fine now that he settled in.

The one that really hurts in hindsight is my want of Bellinger. Figured even with the ugly end in LA he was worth a flier and i much preferred him over KK. Keirmeier has been great for sure but my god the Cubs might have just fallen ass first into a cornerstone of their next core given he'll only be 28 by the summer.

Edit: Dodgers fans are probably bittersweet seeing him come back from the dead too.

He needs to stop throwing that slider so much until he figures out what the problem.

Hitters aren't biting on it because it misses too far out when he throws it to the outside and any other time it's right down the pipe

Sorry I don’t have much confidence in Alek. I realize it would be near impossible to have a year like last BUT this year is a disappointment. He isn’t even very close when he misses.
